A couple of little Q's if you don't mind.
I've just bought a new Timing belt and Tensioner pully kit for my Punto Mk 2 ( 1.2 8v 2000/W reg), and am waiting for a suitable day to do the job.

1) Is this a 'high Interference' engine regading Valve and Piston timing ( i.e. will it get trashed if the belt snaps ?).

Any Dealer/Garage Techies got experience of engines being trashed because of belt slip/break on this particular model.

2) I've changed 2 or 3 timing belts over the last year on other cars ( Rover 414, Mazda 626, Astra 1.4 ) and always just used the thumb and finger 90 deg test for tensioning. Do any of you guys actually use a proper Belt tension checker to test your belts or do you just use this method.

The other cars i've changed belts on have been older, cheap, 'auction dogs' and so 've not been too worried about them, this one is a bit newer and nicer and so i don't wish to take too many chances with it, although I don't mind taking 'sensible' ones.

Cheers
KP
