At 81k, the rear damper upper bush had cried enough, resulting in a loud knocking over any bump. With the bush not being available separately and the dampers having covered a decent mileage, both were changed [£51.05 + VAT each].

For those who want to try and obtain just the bushes, the part number on them is: AM 1098-39 and [despite that number] they are 40mm in diameter.

If my dampers went i wouldn't be putting standard ones back on, thats for sure!!

Never realised the bushes could be got separately. I had one go on the Idea which was a bit disappointing after 37000 of grey haired english teacher pootling and about 1500miles of slightly less grey haired english teacher pootling.

Decided to give Kayaba ones a go, £47 each delivered. When I changed the one that wasnt knocking it was definately on its way out too. Must been the pendulous Idea body waving around giving them extra grief.

Looks like your exhaust is getting fairly near the end too.

There is that, yes, Billy's / Koni's what i would go for but, for a quick & cheap fix, removing all the rubber bush and inject "Tiger seal" to form a poly bush, would make a good improvement from that poor design of bush, there are other liquid polyurethane chemical kits on ebay, just needs some patience and a well centred sleeve. ;)

Remember that I needed the car to be roadworthy [and quiet!] as quickly as possible, so OE dampers did the job [and were delivered to our workshop by the main dealer FOC].

A car that has an alarming [to some] suspension knock is not good to present for a driving test

They aren't available separately from FIAT but that's why I posted the part number moulded on them - you may be able to source them from another supplier.

Has anybody ever turned up a source for these AM 1098-39 rear damper top bushes. They are also used on the Fiat Panda Cross and are definitely a weak link in the suspension. When our car failed the mot after about 30,000 miles the only available solution was new factory shocks . So a couple of more years down the line I am expecting the replacements to go as well. The garage said the dampers were fine and could be rebushed.

Nope- new shocks at 20000 miles........oh well.

While 20000m is truly shocking, ho ho, there is another issue in my eyes. The front.
If like me you did the back and were happy, the front end shows to be shall we say casual.
I think my front dampers are on the way out, following some fellow 100s to Stafford mine dives into corners, and I get wheel spin where I never used to. At best I think the rear has over powered the front.
I think it's time to go orange all round.

I hear you................it's spending most time in the garage at the moment, resting. Pending me either:

a) replacing it with another Dynamic
b) replacing the springs with 1.2/Dynamic springs
c) doing nowt

Replacing the fronts will definately improve things but I still spin a wheel or two when exiting bends.

I thought my fronts were OK but the car dived a lot under braking and after removing the fronts and pushing the rods in/out a few times one of them started to leak.

That was at 37k miles so it proves that OEM shocks are ****e.
