I know there has been a few posts about similar problems to what I have with my Multipla and most are pointing to the EGR valve needing cleaning or blocking off.

I only bought it yesterday, Sat July 28th, and I did so knowing it had a problem with no pulling power after calling my mechanic friend and he told me it sounds like the EGR and it was a simple fix.

I did get the seller to drop the price because of the issue and it was cheap to start with.

However.

I removed the EGR valve and cleaned it out today and still no change.

I am going to try and block it off tomorrow, but if that fails I need some other options that could be causing the problem.

It ticks over great and will run no problem once it's moving, but if I need to get a bit of a move on, like pulling out of a junction or up a motorway slip road, then there is nothing, I have to find a 'sweet spot' to get any modicum of progress in speed. And uphill it just dies.

There are no warning lights on the dash and it doesn't smoke one bit.

It's a 2000 W 1.9 JTD 105.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does it progressively lose power on long climbs - like it feels breathless? If so, check the MAF.

I've found the easiest way to clean it (the hotwire bit inside is very fragile) is either with a can of carb cleaner with one of the long applicators, or put the whole thing in a plastic bag with something like isopropyl alcohol or meths, twist the bag shut (and make sure it hasn't got any holes in it!) then give it a damn good shake for a couple of minutes.

Let it dry out well before refitting.

I agree with wide mouth, check MAF, unplug the darned thing, give it a re set and the ecu will re learn how to run, plug it back in a week or so later and see if there's a notable difference.
also, when was it last serviced, what's the filter like? Etc etc
Failing that, syphon fuel, pour on seats, ignite and watch it go up in flames... Lol

Yes it dies badly, I even had a wagon pull away from me on the big uphill section of the M62 on my way home from buying it!!

I will locate and clean out the MAF after I have blocked off the EGR, and if that doesn't work I'll be back for the next option.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Update.

I didn't block the EGR but just disconnected the MAF sensor and it run perfect straight away.

I will leave it off for a while and keep my eye on things.

Thanks very much for the replies.
