Styling 15" wheels

If you fit 15" wheels to a Cento you do not want to go over 6" wide, ideally you want 5.5-6", any wider is pointless on a Cento. This can prove to be difficult to get as most aftermarket wheels are 6.5-7" wide in 15" fitment, but many OEM wheels as fitted to larger Fiats/Lancia's etc are 5.5-6" wide.

Another reason for sticking to this width is you can then fit 165/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza V rated (upto1 49mph) OEM Daihatsu Copen OEM tyres which if you book online at Kwikfit were only £38 each last week when I looked but prices vary.

This tyre makes a good choice for a few reasons other than price.

The standard 13X5.5" wheel is fitted with a 165/55 13 tyres, so although same overall size, as it has a higher profile a slightly narrower footprint.

The 14X5.5" wheels ie Sei Abarth are fitted with 175/50 14, though many folk due to cost fit a 185/50 14 though I believe that car behaves better on the narrower tyre on the 5.5" wide standard rim.

Now when you got from a 165/55 13 to a 175/50 14 you increase overall diameter from 20.1 to 20.9" or in case of a 185/50 14 tyre you go to 21.3" an increase of over 1" from the 13".

When you fit a 165/50 15 tyre you go to 21.5" so again 1" bigger than standard, but not much bigger than the default 185/50 14, but you get a slightly smaller footprint.

How does it increase size so little, well its all down to it having the smallest sidewall at only 3.2" over 3.6" on both OEM 13" and 185/50 14.

With having a short side wall the ride comfort will go down, but you will get much better turn in and less side wall flex meaning that although the tyre is narrower the grip levels it provides may well be higher. As overall grip is much more complex than just fitting wider tyres.

The 165/50 15 Bridgestone is recommended upto 6" wide, but the VW owners with there stretch look are putting them onto anything upto 7.5" wide, though I don't agree with doing that, a tyre is a major safety component and should only be fitted to manufacturer regulations.

so if i can find some 15"wheels no wider than 6" will i be able to fit them to my cento without rolling the arches?

Checked the classifieds?

Set of Tipo alloys, 15x6 which look like the standard Cinq/Uno/Tempra wheels but 5 'teardrops' instead of 4 - £140

Set of Bravo HLX alloys - 15" but width not specified (PM the seller) - £40! - I've seen these on a Cinq before but they could have been a 14" version.

I'm getting a set of the Bridgestone Potenza Re040's 165/50 15 fitted on Monday to our Lancia Dedra Turbo wheels, 15X6" ET38 for £190 for all four. These wheels are meant for our Cinq, but going to fit them to the Sei just to get a feel for them compare them to the 185/50 14 ContiSport that are on it at present.

To put this in perspective, mytyres quote these tyres at £44 each before fitting.

Or you could buy the original fit 175/50 14 P6000 @ £73 each
or Yokohama 185/50 14 at £63 each all before fitting and prices from mytyres.

If you are that way inclined Nangkang NS2 tyre which is supposed to be pretty decent in 165/50 15 is only £34 each at mytyres, so probably get it localy fitted for £40 if you shop about, half the price of the P6000.

Yellow cinq on 195/40 14 conti sport on compomotive MO's 14 x 6.5 in anthracite. Drop 30mm bilstein kit. No arch mods needed, grips great looks great.

Seeing as the Cinq is not on the road yet, I stuck the Lancia Dedra wheels on the Sei, they have no centre caps and not been cleaned since tyres fitted.

These are 15x6" ET37 fitted with the aforementioned Bridgestone RE040 165/50 15. Car has full KW suspension kit, lowers about 30mm, though as you can see in the picture as car not sitting on level ground one side at the rear is sitting high, but I have shown the other side which is lower.

As the car is a Abarth model it runs 10mm spacers at the front as standard, and we run the 3mm Cinq spacers at the rear, always have. There is no rubbing, or body contact anywhere.

Initial impressions are much better turn in, more grip over admitted very tired 185/50 15 Conti Sports.

These wheels are long since deleted from the parts department as they are off a Lancia Dedra Turbo from about 1990. So only way to get them now is 2nd hand.

Yes you will need 10mm spacers minimum at the front, you could go to 15mm spacers for a wider foot print.

On our car having a 6speed gearbox, it was noticeable how easy it was to get the 185/50 14 tyres to rub on the gearbox, with these having a pretty much straight sidewall rather than sticking out they seem to have less interference on the gearbox which is a bonus.

If you want to go to a 15" rim, I would strongly recommend staying to no wider than 6" and fitting these tyres. So the options are things like Minilite type wheels made to order, you can even get these 15x5.5" or oing for OEM from another Fiat, Alfa or as I have Lancia.

On a 6" wide wheel you really want the ET to be somewhere between 35-38 ideally, though going to say ET45 you can correct with spacers, but going to say ET25 you may get the wheels rubbing on the arches at the rear, on front fine as by fitting 10mm spacers to a ET35 wheel you get a ET25 effective.

I hope you understand that.

My cinq is rolling on 15" TSW Alpines and 20mm drop all round.. Perfectly doable, i have no arch mods at all and no clearance issues, although the ride is terrible.

Aaron, the sei looks schweet on them wheels! not seen an update on the cinq project in a while, did you start another thread or have you just not updated??

anyhoo, pic of my cinq on 15's, tyres are 195/45 r15's. I think the wheels are 6j but i'm not sure, they were on the car when i got it.

what spacers would i need for the 15" or 14" id like 15's but 14's look just as nice and better ride

cheers

spacers have to be sized up when you know all the dimensions of the wheels. Im after some wide or spaced out 15"s to fit over the brakes and fill out the wide arch kit

ahh now i see i need to know the size of the wheels and fitment befor im looking for some OZ wheels or maybe something simular multispoke any ideas?

The wheels what blu has posted are what i had but mine were 14''

they had 10mm spacers (second time ive mentioned this)
