This is my clutch cable (I think) according to Haynes theres an adjuster nut and lock nut, but I don't see a lock nut there. Or do I?

Could people point out the bits and bobs and possibly tell me why it refuses to tighten?? (I'm adjusting the clutch travel)

On another mildly related subject, my clutch feels quite 'sticky'
When it's flat to the floor and I bring it up, it's easy to move and then suddenly it gets a lot harder, the bite is also in this area and so my gear changing is messy and I stall quite a lot, due to bringing the clutch up too far.

Are these two problems related or what?

Thanks for any help

you have to hold the cable bit aswell otherwise when you turn the nut, the cable just spins.

My clutch pedal became sticky on my old cinq, like yours its very hard to drive(even harder with a lightened flywheel) but the clutch was fine so i put it down to the cable. Drive a cinq with a new clutch cable and you'll nearly boot the bulkhead through

It's upside down now! ;)

Cinq ones generally had a locknut, Sei ones were just threaded on the nylon bit. Either fit a locknut or upgrade to a Sei one.

Sounds like it needs adjusting (has a lot of free play in it), but the description is a bit odd, methinks. Give it an adjust, see how you get on. Clockwise from the front.

Whitz that pic looks just like mine! Same angle and all! :D
So I gotta add a lock nut, hold the cable, adjust it, tighten the nut and drive off.

Sorry for the description its hard to tell you whats happening if you aren't here :p

Thanks for the help tho guys.

Oh one more thing, when I took the air cleaner off to get to the cable, I had to pull a clip off of a big rubber pipe that joined the air cleaner to the round thing on top of the TB. However, now I can't fit the clip back on, I was going to stick a jubilee on it but in the mean time is it safe to drive? Or is the pipe likely to come off?

Hold outer cable, tighten nylon nut, then fit lock nut. Pretty sure 6mm x 1.

Put a tie wrap around the pipe.

that's because it is yours just copied it from your album and pasted image code (y)

Hehe I know man :D

Just a cable tie? Sounds easy enough, I wanted to use Jubilee clips cos they look cooler and you dont have to replace them when you take them off.

My Cinq has this Sei's setup (nylon instead of locknut) - seems to be another thing late Cinqs share with Seis (along with different switchgear, single set of under-windscreen vents, etc...)

Also, doing the nut up (clockwise as above) will make the pedal higher, undoing it will take it closer to the floor, handy for slight adjustment if it's too high and your left shin hurts after a while (can't be dropped too much or changes will get crunchy...)

The thing is it is easy AND hard to bring up lol Bringing it up before biting is easy then around biting its a lot harder

I dont have the kinda money for a clutch kit, Ill just battle it out with my one XD I got a locknut today, gonna stick that on and adjust tomorrow.

So you say I should bring the adjuster down the thread (anti clockwise) to make it feel easier??

err not sure, wait for someone else to answer :)

But no, I don't think taking the pedal closer to the floor would compress the same clutch movement into a shorter amount of pedal travel.

If the clutch is really stiff it will be putting more strain on the cable, and if you're having to adjust it up more it's probably only a matter of time before the cable goes (well, that's a given anyway...) or the clutch will need to be changed.

Mine was a little rough changing, I tightened the cable up and got around 40-60 miles before I found I couldn't change at all (and the cable was new); luckily the clutch was still biting, just not releasing so I managed the 4 miles home in third.

Right, I seem to recall the guy I bought it off saying the previous owner had replaced the cable. So I probably don't have very long lol
