After reading about all the problems Tufty06 had with his broken boot lid cable I have made a cost effective emergency opener that works.
You need 100 lbs breaking strain fishing line which is resistant to abrasion. I bought 10 metres from a tackle shop for £1.75.
Remove the plastic cover inside the boot which covers the catch (4 screws). Put a small plastic cable tie around the bottom of the catch where the cable is bolted on (shown by red arrow on attached picture) and tie the fishing line to the cable tie with a non-slip knot. Lift up a small section of the rubber seal between the body and the boot lid just where it starts to curve on the drivers side. Place line underneath so it then goes into the gully on the other side of the seal. Replace seal. You need the strong line otherwise the sharp metal under the seal will cut it. Replace the plastic cover with the line coming out of it at the side (drivers side). Take the line along the gully, keeping it to the left of the boot hinge, to underneath the hood cover and fix down with tape or wedge it into the seal for the boot cover. I wedged it into the seal and tied on a small plastic cable tie to stop it falling out and also to put my finger in when using the emergency opener.
If the cable snaps, lift the hood cover, pull the line along the gap between the body and boot lid to where it passes under the boot lid seal. Pull on the line and the boot pops open.
Nice and easy and it does not show when the boot lid is closed. I hope my description is clear but once you actually look inside the boot you should see how it is done.
