Technical extinguishing 'Change engine oil' light

Turtle got it done in Kwik fit for £20 and if you're only doing it once a year it's the most cost effective route since a licenced copy of FiatECUScan only lasts for 12 months. Have seen 'reports' of Fiat doing it for £40.

I've a 1.3 and went to kwik fit to change oil and to clear warning light - what a waste of time - kwik fit could reset everything BUT the "change oil light" - so not sure about this one, could be the kwik fit but after 2weeks of going back and forth in the end got the dealer to reset.

You can always send Turtle a PM and he might tell you where he got it done. Not too sure if he still has his 500 - it was up for sell at one stage.

How much did the Dealer charge you for resetting it and did they insist on having to change the oil and filter again to 'cover' themselves ?

Sorry Jason, posted my reply, then went on holiday!!

Silly move.

What I was thinking along the lines of was ..... Although you don't have a diesel, you could probably follow the menu system through (without being hooked up to the car obviously) to see if eventually a reset option is offered. I have only just downloaded the trial software and probably havnt got your familiarity with the system to help Simon with his query.

Not sure the above makes sense - and I wrote it!! - but I'm sure you shy bashful types will flame me mercilessly if it doesnt.

It was actually turtle's first post on this that made me try kwik fit - lesson learned - at the dealer they tried to get an oil change but i showed them the stamp and insisted I wasn't getting it done twice, ive had the car since new 2008 and my warranty is long gone - they were cool and 40 quid done

Yes, I did! I bought a licence for my FiatECUScan first though. The free version supports very little interaction with the car! All good now!

Thanks to all for your help and input!
I did get the job done myself, with a registered copy of FiatECUScan and an ELM327 interface from eBay. The whole lot cost me about £52. Not bad for being able to reset this little annoyance any time I need!
If anyone requires the details on this, please let me know!
Simon

ECU Scan is just awesome. Compared to some of the other software tools out there it boggles my mind that he only wants £50 for it.
