A couple of questions to all those who bought the lovely looking Blackjack edition of the 500.
How is the paintwork holding up?
How are you looking after it?
Have you had to deal with stone-chips and how well does touch-up paint blend in?

I have seen a used example, quite a distance from me, but I like the Blackjack, I like it a lot, its just I have concerns over how well its paint will last in the long run.

Thanks

I don't personally have a black jack and can't comment on it as a specific model but I know someone who has Matte paint on a BMW (optional extra when bought new - not repainted) and it's a nightmare to keep in a good standard unfortunately - bird s**t is horrible stuff o that paint as you have to remove it almost straight away :/
If you like the idea of a black jack how about a normal 'shiny' black 500 and paint the wheels black - I think this would be much better; but that's just me :)

I don't own a Blackjack but I have seen one in the flesh and IMHO it grows on you after awhile. I've had a Metallic black car and currently own a Funk white and if I stick with a 500 (unlikely) I would be tempted to go with a Blackjack. Here's one that recently sold in Ireland but the ad has been left up for another one that hasn't got the red leather (very nice contrast - nearly a must have). Here's a discussion thread (with a little video) and you'll see other members who own one.
Since the Blackjack is no longer in production it might become a sought after 'colour' in years to come.

Hi guys,
I own a Fiat 500 blackjack and love it. It is a bit difficult to look after the paint job, I have to clear bird dropping as soon as possible, can't park under trees because of the Sap they leave on the car and can't take it to any car washes.

Saying that, I found it doesn’t need to be cleaned as often as other cars because nothing really sticks to the paint. I have experience one stone chip on the car, really ticked me off because I can't do anything about it.
In terms of washing, I usually just use a sponge and water and the dry with a leather chamois and it looks great.

I have only seen one other blackjack on the road apart from mine and I love that fact. It is totally worth the looks my wife and I get when ever either of us are driving, all the other fiat 500 owners stop and look.

Rather than buy a "Blackjack", why not just get your current 500 wrapped in matt black? Easy to maintain (matt black paint is a nightmare from what i've read online), and when you get fed up with it you can peel it off :)

Thats an awesome idea, how much do you reckon that would cost though.

Wrapping a car depends on the size of car, material etc. I wouldn't say it'd be too expensive actually... Have a look round online, lots of companies will do it at you house/work etc.

Seen one wrapped in matte blue - looked quite cool actually

Stoneacre in Lincoln had one for a few months, I've no idea if it's still there (it was definately there in June). It was brand new but with a lovely scratch down the side!! The texture is very much love it or hate it - I like it to look at but personally wouldn't want it on my car. It reminds me of matt nail polish though which I do use sometimes :D

You would need to phone round a few reputable places for quotes, although the (good) local ones to me are sub £1k for a small car like the 500 from what i've heard. The added bonus of a wrap is, the original paintwork will be protected from stone chips etc. Think i've just talked myself into one :p

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies. I'm still very much interested in the Blackjack and even spotted one on the motorway, no a mean feat given that there are only 170 in the Netherlands and who would have thought the could go so fast :)

I looked into the wrap route and was quoted 1,000pounds with two days to do the job and it should last for up to five years. I've also looked into how the wrap is applied and if you are particularly attached to your 500 I suggest don't inflict it to the process...

I'm intrigued by Jeevansahotas reply when you say that you have had a stone chip but can't do anything about it.

A wrap will do the car no damage at all if done by someone that knows what they are doing.

Hi - excuse me if I am doing this wrong but its my first time... my wife bought a nearly new blackjack today and it will be picked up next week. I was hoping to get a bit of advice from a current (or at least a past - I notice it was 2010) owner about cleaning. There are loads of comments on the net from people saying 'if i had one i would clean it with...' or ' i have heard that bird poo makes the car melt...' etc but it would be great to hera from someone who has actually owned one regarding specialist cleaning etc. DO you regret buying it , was it a nightmare to keep looking nice or am I just panicking for panicking sake?! Thanks so much

Welcome to the Forum jemilner and congratulations to you both on the purchase of the Blackjack.

I haven't got a blackjack or even a 500 at the moment but from a recent thread I came across the following site (Click here) for cleaning products in the US.
Hopefully it will keep you going until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

Hi - excuse me if I am doing this wrong but its my first time...

I've no personal experience of matt paint finishes so can't give you anything more helpful than you'd find from just searching the internet. LH's link in the previous post is an excellent starting point. So I'd just like to say:

Hi & welcome to the forum

Whatever the colour, every 500 has a certain special something which makes it stand out from the crowd. Enjoy your recent purchase :).

This is exactly what I have done. I found a demo 1.2 blackjack at a good price £9495.
Went to see it, there was a large 15cm down to the primer scratch on the rear quarter. They said they'd paint it. I doubted they could get the same finish.

In all honesty the salesman was well over eager and gave the impression he was desperate to get the car sold. Could just be financial reasons but he wasn't that keen for me to crawl all over the car.

I left it in the end and have bought a shiny black one.

Pity as I really love the matte black versions

I'm getting my roof vinyl wrapped matte black to go a slight way to get a similar look.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Would we be required to notify the DVLA and the insurance company of the cosmetic changes?

You do need to inform your insurance company (URL from a previous thread)

The DVLA see car wrapping as reversible meaning that they don't need to be informed reducing the hassle of changing the colour of car, you do still have to tell your insurers though.

Hi Jemilner, I use Meguiars NXT Generation Car Wash but to be honest it doesn't need that much washing, which has come as a pleasant surprise. Whilst it seems to be a dust and pollen magnet a quick rain shower cleans it ups nicely.
