Hi guys,

My sister is looking into getting a 500 to replace her current car. She will probably spec up the new car quite a bit so is it better to get the lounge or sport based on what kit is standard?

Also, on the configurator if you have a lounge you can spec a 1.4 with start stop and xenons but if you have a 1.4 sport you cannot have xenons and start stop tegether. Is this an error on the site or just one of those odd things?

Cheers (y)

First of all xenons are a waste of money. You're essentially just paying money to blind people.

Differences
Lounge has chrome kit
Fixed glass roof
Chequered seats
15" multispoke wheels

Sport
Has foglights
15" sport wheels
Sports seats
Rear spoiler
Tinted rear side windows
Slightly different dials
Different steering wheel

It all hinges on whether she wants the fixed glass sunroof as to whether the lounge or sport is the better deal. Simple as that really.

Again, the HID's are a waste of time especially with the rubbish rear suspension that the 500 has. She'll just end up blinding people and paying £500 for the privelige plus it makes the car look silly.......

Tell her to use the money towards a pearlescent paintjob or a nice leather interior if she's got money burning a hole in her pocket.

I looked at a sport yesterday (happened to walk past dealer) and thought how odd it looks without the chrome strips along the windows. Obviously just MHO.

Thanks for this. She really want the xenons as she has them at the moment on her current car. Think start stop would be useful as she works in the centre of town so would really improve economy I would have thought.

Looking at the FIAT 500 configurator on their website, it looks to me that one gets more choice of interior trim options in lounge spec than sport spec. One can still add various options like interscope music, badges, funny headlights etc.

Agreed that they look silly, but only in that picture. I have them on my 500C and they look great - perhaps its a picture thing as in the flesh they suit the car perfectly.

Hi, Just to throw more confusion in there, you could always go with a bydiesel, which comes with lots of options from both the lounge and the sport (y)

Well like I said they won't be much benefit on the 500 because of the rear suspension and all they'll do is blind other people which makes having an accident more likely.

Hope you don't mind me adding a couple of items?

Differences
Lounge has chrome kit
Fixed glass roof
Chequered seats
15" multispoke wheels
Boot Light

Sport
Has foglights
15" sport wheels
Sports seats
Rear spoiler
Tinted rear & side windows
Slightly different dials
Different steering wheel
S/S sill trims

Not sure but I think lounge has split rear seats but the sport doesn't and the sport seats are more supporting than the lounge

I think that £ for £ the Lounge is better value, but it depends if it has what you (or she) want.

For me, the wheels, fog lights, darker windows & nicer dash made the Sport the one for me. If I hadn't been speccing leather then it would have been an even surer choice as I found the seats more comfy..

because of a well known issue that all the s/s owners on here have..which still isnt fixed....even for the 59 plate owner on here...

wont change this thread to that but noticed it was mentioned as an option....which i would advise against, esp considering its £300 and doesnt lower the tax band on the 1.2...

Which is exactly the reason why all factory fitted Xenon headlamps have to have automatic levelling. I can't say I've ever been blinded by a car with Xenon headlamps, I've been driving for over 20 years and do over 20,000 miles a year.

I've owned many different cars with Xenon headlamps and in my opinion they are one of the best safety factors on any car.

Firstly they're not simply Xenon headlamps. A good deal of bulbs you buy are Xenon. They're HID lights and yes they've got self levelling but it does not work on bumpy British country roads. Everyone wants to see further but I don't really see it as that much of a safety feature, the high beams are fine and if there's nothing coming that's what you use and you get plenty of vision.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you called them Xenons...................

My mistake.

Just out of interest, have you ever owned a car with HID's, aka Xenon headlamps (not to be confused with Xenon gas filled standard bulbs)?

Perhaps from your statement that they 'don't work on bumpy British roads' we should start a petition and sue the manufacturers claiming they are not fit for purpose?

Stefan

Sorry my mistake :p I was just going along with the crowd.

No I've never owned a car with HID's and I never will hopefully. What I'm saying is that you can pick the cars which have HID's a mile away, they're the ones that have a flickering effect on rough roads because the self levelling systems simply don't work on our roads and they will be the ones most likely to dazzle you.

I'm not actually British born so I'm not the type to sue manufacturers.

LOL, you'd need to be American to sue the manufacturers!

I can see where you are coming from, but having owned several cars with HID's, from a safety point of view on dark roads they are a definite safety improvement, not only from a drivers perspective but also in regards to picking out pedestrians and those numpty kamikazee cyclists who persist in riding with no lights!!

More annoying for me is the improper use of rear fog lights, I don't recall in the last 15 years of driving in the South Coast/South West region a single occasion when the fog has been bad enough to warrant their use, and don't get me started on the idiots who use them in heavy rain...............

Apologies to the OP for going off topic, in answer to your original question, we deliberated between Lounge and Sport and the reason we went for Lounge was purely down to the fact that the ivory ambience wasn't available on the Sport which my Wife and fallen in love with along with the red leather interior.
