Hello

i removed my standard dash today and plugged in my lcd dash, the back light seam to come on but the digital displays never lit up.
Some one said about putting a better earth to the dash... is this true..
Some one out there must have some idea of how they go in.. :bang:

It needs two earths from the unit!

I've already explained on a previous post about it rob but i'll explain again, basically the unit will light up when just plugged in but there should be 3 wires by themselves, there not in the plugs but on alone in the middle, IIRC one is red one is white and one is black, splice into the black one and connect it to an earth (just connect it to the chassis somewhere), then your dials should light up fully and work except the boost.

they should go dim when you turn your headlights on, its to stop them dazzling you at night

Mark :)

Ah - those lights are Check Control features. Since your previous instrument panel didn't have them, your car won't have the wiring. It's simple enough to contrive, but you would need the locks from a 70SX or a Turbo (etc.) that has the check control panel (closing the door on these models activates a microswitch in the latch).

As for the brake pad wear indicator, a wire loop runs to and from each front brake pad on models so-equipped. Grounding the wire loop turns the warning light on (i.e when the wire embedded in the brake pad contacts the disc), and breaking the wire loop (pad worn way down) turns the light on all the time (like you have).

There is another alternative solution, involving the instrument panel LEDs and a pair of sidecutters. I'll leave the execution of this remedy to your imagination.
