Hi,
When I fitted our iPod kit i left the unit in place and simply reached up the back of the consol when lying down in the passenger footwell.
You can get hold of and remove the wiring conector block fairly easily.
If you need to remove the unit i'd suggest having a look at the SX4 forum I'm sure there's a removal technical link on there.
