sold my Smart car and now looking to replace with a Punto.

Can someone explain me the models please.

I'm looking at spending about £1k ish... looking for Yellow too.
Am I better spending a few hundred more and having a look at a 2004 Mk3?

Nothing over 70k miles.

Cheap to run.. insure and tax.

Which is that model??

Can you help please?

cheers for the reply.

are the 1.2's cheap insurance group.. I'm not wanting a 16v ho thatch lol

what are the SpeedGear cars I see advertised, are they just automatic?

are there anythings I should look out for..... 'problems' that ppl don't mention in ad listings?

main things too look out for with something thats over 40,000 miles would be things like,

Clutch
Timing belt
water pump
battery
Any oil leaks
any service history (if there isnt any make it your first job)

Also try to get one with MOT and Tax,

worth spending the extra for the 2003-06 car because the specs are better and the cars have had less time to be bashed about by teenagers, have ABS as standard.

be wary of cars that seem cheap a prime example is of a 2004 active sport in yellow which has clearly had some front end damage because it no longer has the sport front bumper.

basically study loads of car adverts to decide what you want. i looked for ages before settling on my multijet dynamic the main reasons being wanting the 1.3 diesel engine and air conditioning

wanting one in yellow does restrict you to sporting models, which come only as 1.2 active 1.4 sports or HGT the 1.4 is rarer and will cost more to buy than your budget allows and the active sport is very basic.

1.2 engine is known to blow head gaskets 16valve models will need to have had the cambelt changed 8valve models without a cambelt change make for a handy bargaining point as its cheap to change and unlike the 16v is unlikely to become damaged as a result.

be cautious of rust on older cars. the speedgear is a CVT gearbox which allows for smooth changes without loss of drive as it doesn't use a clutch can be automatic or manual in operation.

you are asking too much for your budget
a 2004 is the facelift and as stated would need to be a 1.2 active sporting at least
a grand would buy you a poorly repair example only

^^

I think you're right. I've seen a 54 plater, 50k miles 1.2 active sport... at £1600
maybe they're open to offers.

is the Active Sport as standard car.. or something special?

can someone tell me how you know if a car is 8v or 16v 1.2 litre.

Is the 8v just an ACTIVE, but the 16v an Active Sport?

did yellow Punto Actives come with plastic wheel trims.. or did they have alloys?

8 valve have roundish air filter
16 valve are more squarish

you can get a 8 valve active sport ive got one

the one on the left (yellow) is that the 8v?

Btw.. do you get wheel trims on the Yellow Active's?
or should they have alloys?

I think I've found a car... up near York.

think I'll go look at it this weekend.

Now, what sites do you look at to get styling parts etc for a 2002 Punto?

should be picking a 2002 Sporting Speedgear in Yellow up in two weeks time... low mileage and ;looked after.

only annoying thing is its £170 road tax!! :(

lol

are you pleased with it?

anything I should look out for with it?

what Mpg are you getting??

do they feel quite sport and quick being speedgear?

where's best to look for parts and accessories etc?

So many general questions. To be honest you're looking at a relatively old car. If you're lucky you may come across something with a long history, even then rust & other issues to take into account.

Take someone along with you that's up to speed on cars. Lack of maintenance is the main cause of the likes of cooling system deterioration for instance, look at the colour of coolant, does it look clean. Look at the tyres elcheapo tends to mean skimping. Your eyes are your best friend at this stage.

If in doubt, there will be something else, somewhere else.

hi,
I don't think lack of maintenance will be a issue, the owners had things done thats needed. I'll have a look at the cooling and the tyres though.
