General Gearbox Oil - Punto MK1

Hey!

Its time to change the gearbox oil on my Punto 75SX -99 (1.2 MPI, 8V)
I looked in the handbook what Fiat recommended back in 1999

Tutela Car ZC 75 SYNTH
SAE 75W-80, API GL5, MIL-L-2105 D
FULLY Synthetic (Not Semi as some say..)

The oil market is a bit different since 1999, so im looking for a good replacement to the Tutela because its impossible to find it here in Sweden..

The best i can come up with is Redline but witch one is more suitable for the Punto:
Redline MTL (70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil)
Redline 75W90NS (API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E and SAE J2360)

or is the Mobil Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90 (Full Synth)
API GL-4/GL-5/MT-1
ZF TE-ML 02B/05B/07A/12B/16F/17B/19C
Scania STO 1:0
MAN 3343 SL/MB 235.8

The only place you'll find the Tutela is at a FIAT dealer. But it is very good (and pretty cheap). Otherwise, I think either of the others will do just fine.

If Tutela isnt an option I would go for the multigrade 75-90

Ok! I've been to a Fiat Dealer\Workshop but they dont use Tutela, they have Castrol only.. So if Tutela isn't an option for me, what would be the best?

WhiteSei: Wich one of 75-90, the Redline 75W90NS or Mobil Mobilube SHC 75-90

If they are the same spec who cares. Otherwise get the one that best copes with high pressures.

Ok, splended

The second thing that i have have in mind is the Swedish climate.. Its a bit different that in UK mabey! This winter for example the temp. dropped down to -35 ºC (-31 ºF) a couple of weeks.

So i need something thats good in winter like -35 below and sommertimes + 32 C if were really lucky

Your gonna have to ask Fiat Sweden, but probably will need to change the oil for next winter. The engine coolant will be 100% as the 50% mix used in uk is safe only to about -20

Just a tip when doing this - don't follow the haynes manual torque settings for the drain plug, it will crack your gearbox before you reach it

I used the castrol manual transmission fluid 80w -90 in UK climate and changing gear when cold is more differcult than before the fluid was changed. however when warm it slots into gears really easy with little resistance

They sold me 2 bottles of the 75-80 and no problems
