i use the 12v cigarette lighter plug to light my cigarettes, it has been working fine, i have just gone to light my cigarette (pushing but button in) and it made a sparking noise :confused: My cigarette lighter plug is now not heating up. I have plugged in a device that operates from the cigarette lighter and not working

what is the problem?

This is what happened on mine, I don't use it to smoke but i used it neons now and then lol. My fuse had gone.

The fuse for the cigar lighter is in the fusebox in the car (next to the steering wheel) its fuse number F44 in the haynes manual and is on the 2nd column from the left, the bottom one. check if its blown and if it has Its a 20A

how do i know if it has blown? and where can i pick a new fuse up form?

Is yours a mk1?

If so then Some friendly person with a mk1 Haynes manual will have to tell which one it is lol

MK2 my friend, with you saying that it is 20A i pulled out all the 20's and i have found the blown 1

off to halfords now to buy a new 1

I had this problem recently.. the actually ciggarette lighter had worn down and caused a short melting the fuse.. replace the ciggy lighter and fuse.. jobs a goodun
 
Hi everyone

I have the same problem with My Fiat 500 sport 08. I plugged in my Sat Nav but somehow the charger had snapped causing the fuse from the charger to fall into my lighter. There was a spark and ever since it will not heat the lighter or charge anything. I have had a look at all my fuses and these all seem fine. Can anyone else advise me on what it could be?!?

I would really appreciate anyones help as I would rather keep the repairs to my car as cheap as possible!

I am driving to Nottingham on Friday and I really need to try get this sorted so I can use the Sat Nat :)

Any advise would be most grateful

have you cleaned any debris out of the cigarette lighter socket. As this maybe causing a short. Although if so it is most likely the fuse will have blown. I suggest you should double check the fuses as this is the most likely problem. Sorry i could not have been better help :)
