My partner is changing the timing belt on my 1.9jtd 05 after the snapped and i was wondering where the cheapest place was to get a timing tool kit or if anyone had one for sale.

many thanks

Did you say timing belt snapped??
If so you've likely a bit of damage done..
There is a timing kit tool on shop4parts
http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=3650&sku=9925

But theres really no need for it....i did mine the other day and it was straight forward...tools like that would slow you down.

Timing belt kit here at a very good price

Genuine parts too and the belt is marked so its hard to go wrong.

Nice "how to" included in this post

Echoing what Marty said above if the belt has gone then there is likely to be internal damage to the engine.
With regards the timing tool, when I changed my belt I didn't use one. I rotated the engine till the cam pulley was aligned and then noted and marked the position of the bottom toothed pulley before removing the belt, however if the belt has snapped on this engine what will they use for reference on the bottom pulley.
I can't picture any marks on the casing that could be used.

Someone else may have a clearer idea on this.

No you don't need to lock the crank in place which is one of the jobs the tool does but how can you be sure the crank is in the correct position as there doesn't appear to be any tdc marking on the toothed crank pulley.

There is a mark on the crank pulley alright on mine.(03 jtd)
Not the most visible and it lines up with a mark on the casing at the 9 o'clock position.
In fact I didn't think it was a timing mark at first, plus there is a drain point/notch at the bottom of the casing that looks a more likely candidate... It's not!!

If you go for the belt I linked above the marks on the belt lign up with the marks on the pulleys aswell which is reassuring.

Also on reassembly of the crank pulley on the aux drive(big pulley with 4 bolts), there is a small dowel that lines up with a hole in the pulley...I got this wrong initially and the pulley wobbled considerably which could have destroyed everything.
There was also a dead spot in the engine whilst this was wrong.

Marty.
