Panda (Classic) Snatch Panda

Introduction

It's taken a while but I'm going to try uploading some photos..

Inspired by Snatch Land Rovers deployed to Gulf War I, Afghanistan and previously in Northern Ireland, I wondered how the Panda version might have turned out..

Dragonman gave me a useful kick early on and David, Aquamarine has been wonderfully helpful throughout -thank you both.

Things got a bit loose with the interpretation as I got carried away - so the mudflaps aren't necessary (but I like how rally cars look) and the bonnet lamps are because of a soft spot for the Matra Rancho. - Please be reassured that only a rusty bonnet was harmed in the making of this modification.

Similarly - all the changes can be undone fairly easily if Sisley prices continue to head for the stratosphere.. So I didn't paint the grill and I have kept a good unmodified bullbar to one side.

Thats reassuring as its one of the original 500 Sisleys.
 
Wow I like it! Would rather have the wheel on the back but obviously as it is it's for the look. I like the simplicity of the bodywork too, not too many extras stuck on and the debadging is perfect. Lights look fab. Honestly though I don't like the location of the snorkel and I think a bigger roofrack is neccessary although I understand it is an original style one. You've done an excellent job though Andy she's a beast. Any names for her in mind?
 
Presumably you won't use it on the road like that. Not sure about the legality of the front tyre, but you'll get pulled for the number plate pretty quickly.

Apart from that I like the look, but wouldn't have chosen one of the 1st series Sisley's (y)
 
I zoomed in on the bonnet to read what you had there and I so wanted it to read 'range' or 'land' Panda, not snatch panda.

Wheel location was partly look, partly my lack of engineering skills to fabricate a decent rear mount, but also weight transfer when climbing - I thought out front would mean it acted nicely as a lever as the gradient increased..

Snorkel is controversial I know, but this was the neatest/simplest way I could come up with. (In B&Q.)

Would you believe it passed the MOT like that. - I haven't been pulled for about 20 years so I guess I've got it coming soon anyway..
I wouldn't have chosen an early Sisley either but that's red wine and ebay for you. - So I've put the time and effort into sorting out a solid structure and panels that I hope ensure it stays on the road now. The paint's easily changed back to grey in future.
And would you believe the DVLA have rejected "Desert Sand" as the new colour!:confused:
 
Wedding duty in 10 days time - so 'll be around to borrow your spare carb soon please.

I've been thrown two curve balls by the (to be) happy couple -
1. The bride's frock must not get creased. - Simple. Remove passenger seat to create limo like space for frock.
2. The groom must also be transported to the reception post ceremony. - hence prototype rear plywood step visible in photograph. (I hope for his sake it doesn't rain much in North Yorkshire during November.)

I see where you're coming from, we have had this discussion many times about the overhang on the front of Pandas. I know it won't bother you unless you are doing some extreme off-roading but the overhang on a Panda is 22 inches (this is calculated from the centre of the front wheel, which in theory is the point at which the tyre meets the incline to the furthest extremity of the front bumper) which hinders you when attacking steep gradients - this is why when you do it often you realise that you can get get up more things hitting them in reverse. The wheel looks good hanging out front but I do think it will hinder you further when off-roading :)

Loving the snorkel bodging (y) forgot the mention the mudflaps are excellent too, I have some similar to put of mine. I presume you had to make brackets for them? I'd like it if you wouldn't mind sharing the bracket design with me :D

Ramp angle isn't that what they refer to? - in degrees, front tyre contact patch to first point of contact with bodywork ahead (or behind if reversing) as viewed from the side.

Fortunately for me I'm on the Lancashire plain currently. - It's like Lincolnshire but without the view points. When I've been stopped it's usually through wheel spin from lack of traction rather than contact with immovable scenery.. So far..

I'll take some photos of the flap fittings, but I warn you now, it's not pretty.

Yes- they look to be exactly the same spec. give or take accessories.
Seeing the quality and originality of your build allowed me to feel less guilty about my departures. So the Snatch owes you something for its existence. Thank you.(y)

-If anyone wants to see a reference quality grigio quartz Sisley, in future, its going to be your car Freddy, it looks stunning. And if you ever need three more scrap doors in the correct colour, they're behind my garage, help yourself.

Really impressed with how the new colour goes with the Sisley interior. I must admit though I did expect to see the engine replaced by a toilet :p

Thanks V. - aquamarine nailed it on first sight with, "It's a sea of beige in there.".

Paint looks okay in photos but 'authentically military' in the flesh. I used Asda mini rollers to achieve this look. But the whole job cost less than £100 all in so I'm quite pleased.
