Panda (Classic) Blue Sisley, my first Panda.

Introduction

Starting this thread for Gavin (Palio) as the car is with me for work at the moment. Gavin, feel free to back fill details of history. (y)

It's a very nice example, especially considering it's 120,000 miles. It's with me primarily for bodywork. The roof has been resprayed, tailgate was rusty in the corners so has been replaced with a good used one I had, and the offside front wing was rusty so has been renewed.

I've also sorted the rear brakes which had seized wheel cyls. It turned out that the rear brake hose was blocked, when I tried to bleed the brakes the pedal was solid even with both rear nipples removed! It's not surprising the cyls. were seized, they probably hadn't moved in ages.

Another surprise was when I changed the tyres.

It came to me fitted with 165/80/13's, how they didn't foul anything I don't know. The tread was great but the side walls were badly cracked so they all had to be renewed. Gavin went for the same Nankang M&S's I used for Barbara's 4x4 (165/70/13's) as I found they were great around Scotland. The surprise came when I removed one of the old tyres. All wheels had tubes in bye the way......

As the valve pulled out of it's hole the wheel just crumbled!!!

The spare had the same problem but on a much much smaller scale. I was able to weld up and remake the hole on that one.

I won't bore you all with the other stuff I've been doing so, Gavin, it's over to you............

I don't know how much they were to make as I haven't had the bill from the engineers yet. plus, I would have to source some rectangular bar as I'm guessing you haven't got two old jacks to cannibalise. Second thoughts, you probably have. :p

Ok, assuming engineers bill doesn't make it silly, we'll go for it.

Are you talking the old 127/Panda jacks with the wind out rectangular bit? The honest answer is I don't know, but I would be surprised if there wasn't at least one in a lock-up. I think I've killed 2 x 127's in the past so if they had jacks I will have them. Have a feeling there may only be one though, oh of course plus the 1/2 dead Sisley on the patio if that's got one...... ;)

heh i'll have to acquire some of that hand rail....

ive not seen one panda (old or new) in Turkey.. (where i am at the moment) wonder if they sold them over here, though they do have some other fiats i have never seen on sale in the UK before. kinda keeping low about us lot being away haha however free wifi at the hotel  well up to a gig.. :/

If you want to find some classic Pandas go to the Greek island of Skaithos, just spent a week there and saw at least 10 different ones, attempted photos but they were always moving -_-
The Greeks seems to like their Fiats from what I can establish, saw a couple of Uno's and loads of Punto's new and old.

Love the new pics id love a sisley yours looks so clean its unreal

were dose your sump gard bolt on? as im thinking about knocking one out for the Cinq , as mine is quite low ..

You do realise it's not mine but Gavin's ( Palio ) Sisley don't you, I just make the sump guards and rock sliders, I recommend reading the whole thread to clarify things if you didn't. (y)

Panda 4x4's have a tubular frame as a standard form of protection, I clamp my sump guards to this. See pics below......

Thanks for the kind comments, but it's really pretty well used! Scrubs up very well, but has done 127k and will need some Vernon love again this year sadly :(

To be honest I'd be better buying another Sisley from Vernon from a purely logic based point of view, so it's a good job it doesn't work like that when you get attached to a Panda. (y)

I do like my cornfield photos - am I allowed to say that??!! If you don't believe it goes out playing, look at the Panda's playing polar bears thread..... :D

Even if you did buy mine you'd only trade this one in, so Barbara would be no happier. :p

Had a hideous rattle from Howie's engine bay earlier - well not hideous, but didn't sound wonderful for a 128k engine just about to drive to North Yorkshire.

Fortunately my mechanical abilities (shut up at the back! ) immediately diagnosed a loose spark plug

I don't understand how it can come loose - it did it twice before (last time about a year ago) - it sounds like a death rattle from the engine block, but oddly doesn't seem to make the engine misfire!!

Has anyone else had this on a Panda? Admittedly I make sure never to over tighten plugs (every car I get seems to have them welded in place which is a nightmare), but they get the same extra 1/4 turn as all the other cars. It's very odd, and thinking about it VmanC probably did them up last time when he serviced Howie.

I don't really mind this problem, but am a bit  as to how a correctly tightened plug can unscrew itself - it's always the same one too :shakehead: Is this a new foible for a Panda?
