Do you think i need to do an extra service before even tho i only do 8-9k a year.Sorry should of been a bit more clear on that my coolant leak was sorted about 3 weeks before the map. no way would i put my car on the dyno or travel 300m round trip if my car wasn't running right to start with. That would be daft. thanks for the help ffoxy

Its a choice thing whether you do an interim service of your own but I will, wont do any harm, can only do good. The only down side is getting dirty and the cost of oil / filter.

I never had black smoke before the map, i only noticed it when i was going home on sunday. I don't boot it everywhere i go. so i don't really expect it to.

Black smoke is a sign of overfueling. I have a remapped JTD and Multijet and get very little smoke. Would be worth looking into imho.

Or blowing carbon out if it subsides to be fair.... dont panic.... Diesels get their power in a different way to petrols and IMO Peter and the Red Dot guys have a lot of experience.

Im not necessarily blaming the re-map, there are plenty of other causes. Split inter cooler hose, faulty MAF etc etc.....Could also simply be that because you were "testing out" your new map, you blew some of the old carbon soot out of the exhuast, and as such it should get better over the next few drives. Just simply stating that I personally would look into it if its puffing out smoke.

For free? When can you make us an appointment buddy? :D

No I take your point a1ant, mine is fine but I dont cane mine at all, and post re-map I had a bit on the motorway for a mile or two but it went away. I have no starting or running issues and my MPG is fine too.

Right

Just an update for everyone. Took my car back to Red-Dot today after speaking to Tony yesterday. The guys were as good as gold and Tony had written a new map for me overnight.

Flashed the map onto the car and sent me on my way. New map cut the fuelling slightly and also leveled out the graph.

No black smoke at all anymore, and performance seems pretty much the same. Not so much of a kick up the arse when you boot it but power is uniform across the rev range.

Not 100% sure what it is running as he didn't do a Rolling Road after the tweak....but from what he said, it should be running pretty much the same.

In terms of it being faster....it is actually pretty much the same...just a smooth build up of speed now rather than a kick up the arse!

btw TurboTipo....what did yours end up running in the end? I ended up going home sunday before your motor went on the RR

Your RR traces should look a bit more like this then

Well im almost happy with my map the only thing that i dont like is the flat spot that i still have low revs i will try and scan my graph in to show you because i would like to get it smoothed if poss.

Well done young man for having the brains to know when to much power is not a good thing. Glad to see you had the good sense to stick to a well behaved car as speed is not everything. wish there were more drivers with sense like you and you qualify for an extra BQ sausage the next time we meet.

I am tempted at to go to the next meet and get my map turned down abit dont like the black smoke and no1 who just gets in my car can drive it. They think it is to powerful.

 Huh? Its less than 200bhp..... 145 max at the wheels WTF? My 18 year old daughter an drive mine ok and her aunty....

I like it i just dont want a car that flies out black smoke and that people have problems with driving. It is one of those hard choice i like the idea that mehstg did.

I dont see the smoke much but i no it happens now and again. I dont think it is to gd for the engine. (No sure how right the last bit is tho)

I get the not likin the smoke bit Reaper but the power delivery must need smoothing, my GP is no slouch but its smooth and a piece of cake to drive. (y)
