Blue & Me - Tech Info and questions and answers

Hello,

I want to pair my iPhone with the F500 system, but I'm not sure about the code. In the leaflet you can find WXYZ. Is it the right one?:bang:

No, when you select Pairing from the Blue&Me menu in the car it will show you the code on the display. The one in the manual is just an example. Codes are numeric only.

I thought this might be helpful to iPhone users with Blue and Me.
My experience relates to the system in the 500.
The 8GB iPhone on O2 will readily 'pair' with Blue and Me and the Phonebook downloads and appears in the menus. The 'pairing' is retained in memory (thus far!).
Since the 16GB has identical firmware and database I see no reason why it should not work equally well.
I have received calls and the caller name is accurately displayed on the dial at the centre of the speedometer. I have yet to plug the phone into the USB socket to test battery charging but, if USB output proves inadequate, the 12V socket will suffice.
I have yet to test text messaging. I am expecting 'issues' because of the iPhones unusual display but then, given the politics, I wasn't expecting any of the above to work either.
For clarity you may need to rethink some entries in your Contacts because the display width is limited.
To date I have had much less success with the voice activation which has proved unreliable and, on occasions, downright irritating.
That is no fault of iPhone and may well be me.
The stored music is unlikely to work because iPhone (like iPod Touch) runs on a version of OSX which, unsurprisingly, is not compatible with Windows Mobile. As a Mac user I have compromised with Sandisk Cruzer 4GB USB sticks, formatted in XP in Boot Camp, and loaded only with .mp3s and .wmas in named folders. Stick to the naming 'rules' and check your ID3 Tags with something like FixTunes.
Hope this helps. I am also learning and would be delighted to hear of others experiences and ideas.

Chris

I can recommend the OCZ 2Gb USB stick at £10.54 because it's very small, as thin as a 10p coin, is black and blends in nicely if you have a dark dashboard surrounding (less likely to be seen if you keep it in your car overnight) and has a subtle blue LED.

It has a cheap USB connector but fits okay all the same.

Looking for 4Gb storage? Try the Sandisk Cruzer Micro Skin at £12.92. It's again very small but slightly chunkier than the above one because it's enacased in a rubber skin. It's silver and has a large bright greed LED and a proper USB connector

I've had no problems playing music with either but prefer the OCZ one because it's black and I feel more confident leaving it in the car instead of unplugging it when I exit the vehicle.

On the phone side I have an Orange SPV M3100 running Windows Mobile 5. It works well except with the SMS Reader which is to be expected, sadly.

Gary.

I'm not sure if Blue&Me is available as a dealer fit extra. It it was my guess is around £1000 including the steering wheel and fitting... maybe even more. But for £50 you can buy a plug & play Bluetooth hands free gadget that will take care of voice controlled dialing (a £100 one has a LCD screen that show a photo of the caller!), and I'm sure there are many excellent mp3 stereos you can buy and fit for under £200.

thanks for that - i'm a semi-techno-phobe.. any idea which kind of plug and play are best? Would I need an mp3 player to go with it, or can it work without?

I just had a Google and found this wicked new car stereo from Sony that does everything you want in one little box, including downloading your phonebook and doing voice dialing - it will mute the currently playing CD/MP3/USB track.

£177 is the best price I've found, but ideally you'd want the suppliers to fit it for you and test that it's working correctly, so Google for your nearest in-car audio dealer. The above web page includes a link to the manual so you can read it to make sure it does what you want. They do a £75 model that doesn't have the mobile phone connectivity.

Someone else said that only your Fiat dealer has the keys to remove your stereo, so don't forget to arrange that first. Pioneer etc probably do similar models so check out the market before you make a choice. Also try to find out if it's 100% compatible with your phone. Chances are it is since bluetooth is bluetooth, but there are always exceptions.

Hi guys,

I've tried today to listen to some music through the USB port in my new Bravo. I've filled up my stick with 1 Gb of tunes (mp3 format) and plug it in. It worked great until... it stopped. I mean, the sound stopped suddenly even if the radio showed me I'm on Media Player and even if the menu in the dashboard showed me the tune is on. I've removed the stick, plugged it in again... the same thing. sometimes it works for 5 seconds, sometimes for a whole tune, sometimes it doesn't work at all. I guess it's not the stick's fault because the tunes can be heard (well..partially).

Did everyone else has this problem? I will try again with another stick, but until then I want to hear some oppinion

Ok, don't need to worry, all worked well when I changed the memory stick. The funny fact is that the USB I've tried and didn't work was a present from Fiat :))

See ya.

Hi guys, I got a Grande Punto with blue&me and last week my "smart son" decided to listen to his ipod and drained the battery. I called the AA and they recharged the battery but now my blue&me doesn't work anymore. I press the buttons and nothing happen. How can I fix it? Do I have to reinstall it? Please help me! Thank you.

You dont need to reinstall anything, it may just need a reset which is done by removing the battery terminals for 5mins and re-connecting the battery, this should kick it back into life. I hope the AA havent blown something by super-charging the battery!.

If it doesnt work once youve disconnected and re-connected the battery id get it straight back to fiat asap for it to be looked at.

@Tania. Have you tried pairing your phone with the car again? If your radio or dash electronic displays are blank then perhaps one of the fuses was blown (which is to protect the electronics). Easily fixed if you get it looked at.

Hi. Thanks for answering. But now my ipod is not working. Phone is not pairing either. And my dash is fine Gary. I called the dealer and they want to charge me £77 to fix it! Maybe just reseting will fix it. Hey Scooby, how do I remove the battery terminals? Some step by step guide would help.
I am a girl...

Thank you

Someone was cool enough to post the extended manual for Blue&Me (albeit in the Lancia Ypsilon but we won't split hares) here (link won't work because i don't have five posts yet, but its the lancia.com site and its an 88 page doc instead of the usual 4 page most people know of). I was curious as to whether anyone knew or could find the same thing for Blue&Me Nav or Blue&Me Map (I know Map is new and probably won't have anything available yet, but I thought I'd put it out there). If anyone could or knows where it is, you would make my week, maybe even my month, so awesomely better! grazie a tutti.

I've got the 88 page B&M manual, it came with my new Bravo. Sorry, I don't fancy scanning it in!

@Tania - what exactly doesn't work? Does the radio work? CD? Music from a USB memory stick? Can you control the radio's volume using the steering wheel buttons?

What if you press the Windows button on the steering wheel?

I'm trying to figure out if it's making phone calls that you can't do or if the audio system is faulty. Can you access the B&M menu? If so try resetting the pairing...

Go to the main menu and select SETTINGS, then USER DATA. Then select DELETE USERS. On your mobile phone delete "Blue&Me" from your Bluetooth paired device list. Now both your car and phone can start again from scratch.

If you got that far try pairing your phone again.

I found a paragraph in the back of the manual that says: "If you are a girl and you get stuck, press the Windows button and scream clearly into the microphone." ;-)

I understand that 88 pages is a lot... I'd never ask anyone to do that much work! But I was wondering if anyone knew where to find that same in-depth manual but for the newer Blue&Me systems, specifically B&M Nav and Map. just to clarify...(y)
