:cry:Hi everyone!
Does anyone know how to get my rear boot open? The cable has snaped, so it is closed locked. It's a 1980 X1/9:bang:
Many thanks.

Does it still have the emergency cable under the coolant reservoir? It should have a rubber ring at the end to pull.

And if you don't have that emergency cable...

If you're lucky it snapped at the latch end. If so, you can remove the air intake behind the door and and reach the cable from there. You'll probably destroy the sheath, but if the cable is broken you should be replacing that sheath anyways.

If you can't get a the cable from there... The only other answer I've heard of is to cut a hole in the skin of the car. :( Take off the rear license plate, cut the hole behind it, and at least the plate will conceal the damage when you're done. I'd love to hear a better idea.

If you have to go down this track, look at the engine cover latch. It's basically the same. It'll give you an idea of where the little lever is at the bottom of the latch (this is what the cable attaches to). Drill the hole so that it's in line with this and insert a screwdriver or similar and push the lever to the left. This should release the latch.
