Hi
I have just bought a campervan 1999 with a broken cambelt - i don't know the extent of the damage but i am assuming it is extensive. I am struggling to find a workshop manual for this x230 engine (whether it is fiat, citroen or peugot). Can anyone point me in the right direction. Happy to pay for the download.
thanks

Welcome to the forum. Please do report on what you find.

Is your German good? There is a German language workshop manual for the x230 in the Downloads section, for which see the black banner at the top of the page.

The good news is that the download is free, but donations are accepted by the forum.

The bad news is that the English translation, while a valiant effort, suffers from corruption of the illustrations, and lacks the electrical diagrams, which do not cover some of the engine details. Perhaps both downloads viewed in parallel?

x230 is the model number, not the engine type, there were several engine options available for a 1999 x230. It will be essential to find out which you have. It is probable shown on the VIN plate eg 8140.43 would indicate a sofim 2.8idTD.

I have found the following links informative. Wikipedia, and Motor-Car. The latter link lists other vehicles using the same engine.

I think that @bugsymike will be able to advise you about checking for damage that the engine may have suffered, e.g. bent connecting rod(s).

Good luck!

As @Communicator mentions, need the Engine Series Number, cc, age etc. Then we will be able to advise better.
Also if cambelt failed on a 2.8 there is a high chance of bent con rod which involves a full engine rebuild, been there and done it in the past.:(

For live translation use Google lens app: it translates live (changes the original text to the desired language) and displays it on the screen on the phone :) The text can also me marked and copied / pasted to a file (notes, emails).

I know it's not perfect, but very quick and easy to use. And does the job most of the time.
