Hello Fiat Forum. I've been doing some searching because I'm sure someone's probably had this problem before, but usually they're accompanied by loss of power, poor MPG, crap acceleration etc... none of which I have.

So last Sunday my rear brake shoes ended up causing the cylinders to leak all the brake fluid out (engine was running just fine). I took it into my local garage the very next day as it was due an interim service on Wednesday anyway. I have been losing coolant before this through the water pump (leaks coming off the oil filter). They fixed the brakes and gave it an oil change and I collected it on Thursday. When I drove it home, the car was running on 3 cylinders and the engine light started flashing (found to be a broken coil pack, now replaced and car running normally).

They've also changed the timing belt and re-sealed the water pump too. All fine. I check the water level before I drive to work today (24 miles), it was at max. Misfire sorted and drove like a dream.

Just before I set off home, I check the water level and it's down to minimum. It's been raining so I couldn't tell if it had been leaking anywhere. Topped it off back to maximum and off I go 24 miles home.

I've just checked the tank and it's still at maximum, but the neck of the tank is coated in a layer of white oily crap. I'm thinking HG failure, but I can't see any vapor in the exhaust. Am I overlooking something?

usually white gunk is oil side as water goes into oil
And oil goes into coolant it goes very black and ucky

Bleeding punto's is a BITCH, a royal PITA

They airlock easily, they dont always get air out after numerous bleeds

If they didnt bleed it properly, the air as you drove over bumps and various rev ranges, the air escapes as its replaced by water = Good

But bad because now your low on coolant

Dont add water, unless its a get me home fix or you are leaking enough

I'd be putting some concentrate into the coolant to ensure it doesn't cause problems in the future
