It's your donor ECU still immobilised?

Without the matching code box and key it isn't going to start.

I would assume it is, but I have no idea. It may well be a faulty ECU, it came with an engine I bought years ago.

Based on the mckchrich chip either requiring the code off the original chip or there being a universal one that bypasses the immobiliser, I assumed the chip I am trying from eBay was a universal type one as I never had to supply any codes to the seller. It worked fine in my original ECU.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the immobiliser system, so was hoping someone could confirm that the error I am seeing is simply that and a universal mckchrich chip would work fine?

If that is correct, then hopefully the mckritch chip will work with that ECU :)

Should work on your original ECU if your original key and codebox are used.
I don't want to cut the sealant off the original ECU again. I want my original ECU for MOT time and any fault finding I may need to do and then another ECU for "performance".

Then you will either need to get the replacement ECU "virginised" so that when you plug it in the ECU pairs with the code box in the car or have the immobiliser turned off and unplug the code box.

Would using the "universal" mckritch chip not bypass this?
There are a few people on here running 2 ECUs that they swap between, but most don't really know the ins and out for me to be able to confirm if it is likely to work for me!?

Just went with a mckritch chip in the end. Fitted it and the car now struggles to start. Once started it runs perfectly.

Intermittently I get an engine light and a code for injector vss short to ground!? Again, the car will still run fine once I eventually get it to start.

Any ideas? I have put the standard ECU back on for now.
