I used the tool from the boot kit

It only happens on the front left. Sorry I forgot to mention that I thought I had done.

that says you are not doing them tightly as wheel rotation is slackening them
go buy a proper wheel extendable wrench as the one that comes with the car is frankly a liability as you have found

on commercials this wheel often comes with a left hand thread on the nuts/bolts and often catches me out

So this?

I find it strange how it only does it on the one wheel but I will pop to the shop and buy this. and see if I can get it any tighter.

yes they are superb
confirm it has the 17mm heasd on it once swapped round though

many a mans lost his life in a commercial due to wheel loss this is why drivers sides have left hand threads as bolts tighten more as you drive this way

no not from there the same tool but every where else its a fiver, qd, the range....

but you will still be better off with a torqe wrench, there is a danger of over tightening with these extendables,

i use one all the time if not at work as i keep one in my truck
scaremongering in my opinion and far better than an out of scale torque wrench thats seen better days

its not scaremongering at all. people who don't do a lot of tightening are not like us and don't have the natural feel, ive seen people use these extended to tighten putting all their weight on them. threads get stripped out of hubs or bolts become too tight and snap when wheel heats up.

Other wheels on same car? See S & B's thingy about wheel rotation vs. thread direction.

Easy enough to work out correct length. It's thickness of front hub, + approx 1mm, + length of straight portion of bolt hole in alloy.

By convention, the length of the bolt is measured from the start of the thread end to the start of the "taper out"

watched my brother in law "swinging" on a CLICK_STOP torque wrench ;-)

buy one of the extendable wrenches,

do up as tight as you normally could with 1 hand..,
then take it to a proper garage to check the tension with a torquewrench,

that is SUPPOSED to be done 20 miles after a wheel is refitted anyway..( often in paperwork for tyre changing)

As it's only one wheel you're having issue with I would take it off and examine the holes where the bolts mount the wheel, as it was a set of second hand alloys it could be this one is damaged and no amount of tightening is going to fix the issue, it maybe the bolts end up pulling through the wheel and cause a serious accident,

Might be better to take it off go to a garage and get them to check it out for you.

You can buy single wheels with a tyre from eBay for about £45 so it's not the end of the world

Cheers for the advice mate. I got the extendable wrench and had atleast a 1/4 of a turn on each nut without 'putting my full weight' on it. I will see how these go. Like you say, my concern is that it could be the holes on the hub or the alloy which is worrying me!

YST

dont use this car dude,
if you want to use it in this condition, get the wheel off, then atleast fit on the
'Space-saver' and the original bolts that came with the car on that corner,

yes..a space saver is going to look daft,

you need to find out what is wrong with the Bolts or the alloy wheel,

if this wheel comes off whilst using car inthis condition ..you couid take someone out or worstcase scenario someone couid be injured/killed,

Torque wrenches on wheel bolts are for people that dont know there own strength, its very easy to turn a bolt into a brillo pad
