Are you sure there is a separate loan

As far as I remember the wire is part of the lights and fuel pump loam, and goes directly to connectors on the body computer

That's what the Haynes manual implies. I need to dig under the carpet, think I see something.

The switch is on the passenger side of the handbrake

Close to where the handbrake pivots

The empty plug and cigarette lighter aren't anything to do with it

Yes, switch is obvious. I can see what looks like a (possibly damaged) black braided thing very near and maybe trapped under the passenger seat's rail. More tomorrow.

And thanks, as ever!

Unlikely on a right hand drive

As far as I know

The wire goes forward slightly and over to the off side sill finishing up just above the accelerator

Under the seats there are connector for heated seats, side airbags and under the driver for the sub woofer, most are hidden under the carpet normally

I didn't have time to solve this today. Yes, multimeters everywhere! You can never have enough when you've got Italian cars and Land Rovers.

Great

If there's around 2V between the wire and a ground point then the harness is 100% and you don't need to rip up any of the carpets

If you short the wire to ground the light should come on , if it does the switch is faulty

I normally short out wires with a test light, in this case it will not work, there's too much resistance in the bulb with it only being 2V

I'll be looking for it later today if the rain holds off. From your description then it should be coming up through the right front of the hole in the carpet? I'd expect that to come in from in front of the raised crossmember in the floorpan that the fronts of the seat rails sit on? I ask because I've had the seats aout to wash them and if it were behind I can see that the wire could have got trapped - strongly doubt it because it was seats out, vac car, wash seats, put back in, no fiddling. But because I hadn't appreciated that there might be a disconnected wire then anything's possible!

I suspect so
Never had the carpets out

The only drawing I have has the steering wheel on the other side, should be the same just mirror imaged

Id still start with measuring the voltage, if 2V is there there's no point in going any further down the harness route

We don't know anything yet, is the body computer pumping out any voltage, is the LED on the dash working

The LED is shared with the low brake fluid, if you remove the top up cap, and let it hang virtually does the light comes on

Going to be out till this evening

I really need to find the wire first - if it's been cut off at the BCU then it could be time to check V because it would point to a problem not solved!

Thanks for the drawing. I'd imagine that the fuel pump/sender wires don't go over to the nearside for rhd. If they ran then down the offside cill it would make sense and the hb one would come across the front of that crossmember as it seems to for lhd, and then loops round to the left of the hb lever. Should be simple, the plug must be causing a visible lump.

Yes they are all in one bundle going to the body computer above the accelerator cable, running above the sill

If there's 2V at the end it's not cut, no need to go further down this path

Found it. It goes across the 'transmission tunnel' well forwards of the carpet hole and comes back parallel and close to the passenger seat rail, held in place by tape. I'm missing the plug. Grounding the bare end gives a warning symbol. While I wonder how this came to pass, I guess I'll have to contact breakers for a plug. (No, it's not still on the switch).
