Yesterday, suddenly errors related to the ABS appeared, the steering became heavy, and there were other errors as well. I needed to drive about 5 kilometers, and it turned out that when I was stationary, the voltage was 14 volts, but when I started driving, it jumped to 17 volts. I got to my destination, parked, but today I couldn't even start or unlock the car—there's no electricity at all. As I understand it, the problem is with the alternator, but the question is why there is no electricity today. Is it because the alternator short-circuited?

I would say yes, the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, some later vehicle alternators are now controlled also via the ECU for certain load conditions, but I suspect yours predates that.:)
