Technical Very high emissions

Hi all, I own a mk1 punto with the 1108 fire and its failing its mot on emissions. Plugs, filters and oils are new. Lambda sensors is showing that its working on the mot emissions display. However I noticed that the idle is sitting a bit higher than usual and there is constant smoke from the back. Not sure of the colour though as its very faint. Could it be running rich or a vacuum leak? Thanks

These are simple engines..
But designed for 1980's emissions regs, not 2020's
