Has anybody managed to successfully install a 5v USB charger in their car?

I’ve wired a cigarette lighter to a permanent live from the fuse box. This successfully allows a plug-in USB adapter to work with the engine not running, but with the engine running the adapter fails to function after a few seconds. I’m putting this down to electrical interference as the only multimeter that I can use that doesn’t give spurious readings is an expensive Automotive Fluke meter.

I’m wondering what to do to get around this as it would be very handy to have a wired-in ISB power source and not having to rely on a power bank?

My car has a generator, not an alternator.

Yes, there is a constast 12v feed to teh lighter socket with ignition off / Ignition on / Engine running. The 12v is a steady 12v feed with engine not running, but becomes an electrically noisy 12v feed with engine running.

Fundamentally I either need to work out a way to make the 12v less noisy with engine running or use a 12v-5v converter that is not affected by the electrical noise.
