Hello to everyone,

I own a 2015 500x Cross with the basic 5” uconnect radio. About 1 year ago the radio started rebooting at random times while driving. I solved the issue by holding down the power button for 10 seconds (it just a clean boot without resetting settings etc.). Recently the issue started again and also Bluetooth isn’t working anymore. The clean boot solution didn’t work. I also tried removing the battery for some minutes but it didn’t seem to work too.
I tried to perform a firmware upgrade (current firmware 08.05.06.02) just to find out that the usb port doesn’t work at all. Tried several usb sticks (fat32 format) both with the new firmware and just with some mp3 tracks. The port doesn’t seem to give power at all.
I know that the reboot/bluetooth problem is a known issue that gets solved by updating firmware, but now I am unable to update.
I discussed the issue with the workshop and the mechanic told me that it must be a head unit hardware problem and that the head unit needs replacement.
I also connected the car to MES but no fault codes at all (I suspected proxy/can issues but I don’t think that’s the issue).
So what do you recommend? If the head unit needs replacement, I think it would be a good idea to buy a used 7 inch HU from the facelift model (Continental vp2) in order to get the CarPlay capability, but I read mixed reviews about this mod. (some people report about failed proxy configuration extension, others say it worked fine).

Thanks in advance

A similar post to which I replied is that it could be the head unit overheating. See: https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/radio.509794/post-4758010

Sadly no real update from the OP so we don't know if it was an overheating problem or not.
I actually got into engineering menu to see the temps and the head unit restarted while temps were not over 30 degrees. However it maybe got overheated sometime and it caused permanent damage. I also noticed that both usb and aux options are unavailable. So there is a possibility that the usb/aux module is causing the problem, or maybe the wiring harness between that and the HU is problematic.
