Is it permissible to use tyres with a speed rating of T rather than H on the front of a 16v (185/60R14). In the handbook it gives:-

1.2 16v - 165/70 R14 81T or 185/60 R14 82H

so can I use 185/60 R14 82T tyres at the front instead of the 82H currently on, without invalidating insurance:confused:

Ideally you want a speed rating that is above the maximum rated speed of your car, T = 118mph speed rating so should be okay, H = 130 mph so definitely will be.

Anyway why do you want to use T rated 185/60R14 tyres? There is a much better selection of H rated rubber at that profile...

The tyres I would prefer to get - Firestone F590 FS - are not available H rated at blackcircles.com hence my query

To be honest, after speaking to tyre specialist there isnt much difference between the tyres over 100mph!!! He says they just charge more to cover there ass. Its like insurance. If anything goes wrong.

Well I've noticed a big step up in longevity of road tyres during track sessions when you hit V & above rating. Even my punto could more-or-less write off a full set of T or H rated tyres, however with V rated it's fairly hard to write off a set of fronts. The difference between T & H was the H were just warn unevenly, the T tread block seemed to deform.
