2012 Panda Lounge 20K miles

Hi folks..
Going to replace front discs and pads on my Panda.
I've got heaps of tools from my Seicento servicing/repairing days but I
see the Panda has a scattering of Torx type bolts (two on the front brake frame for instance).

So, got to get a socket set of Torx stuff.
Anybody know if Fiat use a standard Torx or is there a special type for these
cars?

Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,
have a careful look, ;)

some of the FIAT kit is "RIBE.." not Torx.( 5 point.not 6 , etc)

I've not put a spanner on my 2013 Punto so cannot comment

maybe googling brake service tools will find the answer..

Thanks for the reply Charlie (y)

Right, will have a careful look to see what they are...

Out of interest, have you come across any service info (Haynes or similar) for
the Pandas?

Hi,
Typically the bolts with a recess (female) head are RIBE while the male ones are TORX. Machine mart sells sets for both. I got a PRO168 22 piece Ribe Bit Set, 040214543 10 piece 1/4 & 3/8 drive Torx set and a PRO191 5 Piece deep ½" drive Torx set to cover my Croma. The PRO44 14-Pce TORX Socket Set covers the same range without the deep sockets on the larger sizes.

Helps a lot Robert, thank you(y)

Will pop into our local Machine Mart tomorrow and stock up...
Never come across Torx headed big bolts till I got this Panda last week.
Had a quick squint underneath and there's quite a few of them used...
Think I saw them used on the rear shocks...

Thanks guys

Phil

:idea:I looked at a few of the youtube clips for "500" front brake changes..

and only saw HEX head bolts.. even US spec ones..??:spin:

I was thinking SOCKET heads..( female) like allen bolts..
not used any ..but still have some of those sockets...

it's a pain isn't it , each generation of car used different kit,

that the 4th genration of "spline drives" I've got:eek:

I've been looking at a couple of "500" brake change videos but they seem
to use a caliper similar to what's in my Seicento...pin out and hinge up
type thing..

This panda seems to be removal of caliper with two bolts under rubber caps
then two big Torx male bolts to remove the carrier....
Not quite as easy but OK to do if you have the right tools I guess :D

Onwards and upwards..

There are a lot of the male Torx heads on the Croma, but it's a GM floorpan. My Marea had a few though. It is a pain to identify all the different types and easy to get caught out. Being an aircraft professional and previously old landrover and Lotus owner, most of my kit is imperial. Aircraft are even worse for weird fastner heads, Bristol spline, Torque-set, Hi-torque and Tri-wing to name a few.
