Software isnt released yet, so if you do get one, dont update it yet.

sounds bad... how does plugging it in to update it bugger it up.... it should just not update...

They hadnt released the software, so it installed a different application which doesnt work.

Cock up between depts at tomtom.

:(

Spoke to them a bit, and they say the software will be up. Otherwise it will be going back.

i know all their uk xl models have been sent back for some fault, this may well be it, but on the plus side they brought the price of their european xl units dwn cheaper than what the xl uk was

Took it back.

New one now, so we'll see how it fares.

I'm on my 2nd Tom Tom now and have never had a problem with them. I replaced the first one as it had been dropped a few times, and I'd broken it but one has never let me down.....

On both windows & Mac OS X, Tom Toms are mounted as MSD (Mass Storage Devices) if you delete the contents of the Memory Card, you should be able to download the original firmware via Tom Tom Home, I've had to do this on numerous Tom Toms due to incorrect updating. This is what happens everytime you put a new SD card into the Tom Tom, as the software resides on the Memory Card and not on the Tom Tom.

Hope this helps.
