I'm trying to achieve more power from my Fire 999cc engine (without changing it). Contrary to most, I'm not looking for more speed, I'm looking for more bottom-end grunt to climb hills. Has anybody tried fitting a supercharger?
Your best option would be a rotrex on, but any option will be a few times the value of the car.
There's a lot more that just bolting on a supercharger, the whole inlet needs looked as and made sure it can handle positive pressure, fueling system, blow-off or venting when you close the throttle, mapping, probably need a custom ECU.
Then how much power or torque can the internals handle before bending?
as said above.. it would be more easy on a carbed car but heres the issues i see:
the issue with a super charger if its a carbed car it would stop your vacuum advance and break servo assist from working.
if its fuel injected it would mess the manifold absolute pressure sensor up and stop the brake servo assist from working. it also may back feed into the carbon canister.
the engine breather would have to be vented to atmosphere probably through an oil catch can.
totally doable if you were to run an electric vacuum pump.. hmmm
i dont think you would need much PSI to make a big difference. say up to 3PSI. i bet it would take more though.
Thanks for the input. I forgot to say it has a carb, not fuel injection.
I've bought an AMR500 supercharger and will run it on an SU carb. We'll see how it performs.
