Technical Sunroof centre bar rivets - how to fix them?

As Subject - I got a new sunroof for Christmas, together with some new rivets from Ricambio. Just wondering what's the technique for fixing the rivets - hammer them together? clamp in a vice to compress them, or what?

From memory I wrapped insulation tape around a pair of pipe wrenches and squeezed mine together. Crude but worked.

OK, success eventually - I put one end in no problem - put some insulating tape on the outside half, placed that down on the top of a vice and banged the other end with a hammer. Then I had a hell of a job stretching the hood enough so the hole lined up with the other end, but got there eventually. Probably good that it had to stretch so it is nice and tight.
