now for the next problem with my 1.4 idea 2005,it does start but it takes longer than it should, also when going up through the gears, when I lift my foot to change up a gear say at about 3000 revs the car revs on to about 3400 all by it's self, also when taking my foot off the gas pedal the revs drop right down to about 500 revs, sometimes it just drops that low that it stalls but if it does not stall then it sits between 500 and 750 revs but it won't sit at a steady rev, also when i try to up the revs with the gas pedal just to steady the revs there seems to be a delay between pressing the pedal and the revs picking up and i can't hold them steady.other than that the car drives very well but I'm at the point that if I can't sort it then it's getting traded in for a new car,I've only done about 500 miles in it,not even had it a month,I took it back to the garage I bought it from 4lands in Carluke only to be told that the car was fine,It even stalled twice in front of the owner of the garage but he said as I had done 500 miles then there was nothing he could do,we ended up having a swearing match at each other.he asked me what I wanted for £3000,I was only looking for a car that worked, not to much to ask.:bang:,ok now my wee rant is over does anyone have any idea :D what could be wrong

Hi Panda idea
Sorry to hear about your problems, That garage owner sounds a right ******, I thought anything sold should be fit for purpose. There should be some comeback there if all fails.
Not sure I can help much but my previous car ( not a Fiat) had the same problem with revs dropping at stationary , junctions or pulling up on drive to the point where it stalled. This was after the battery had been disconnected and the ECU had reset itself. I then had to re-teach the ECU, I found the procedure on a website. It went something like this, running engine with all gizmos off and heater on cold for 10mins then engine off turn on with heater on full running again for 10mins then off then turn on again air con on full again for 10mins. After all the faffing about it idled a bit better and over the next few days it improved. Not sure it will be the same for the Fiat, but worth a search.
Good Luck.

Hi st004rt, cheers for that,I did have the battery off it so I'll give that a try,I'm sure there's something on the workshop disc about reteaching the ecu

does anyone know the procedure for re-teaching the ECU and also the procedure for calibrating the electronic throttle.

I've had a look on the workshop disc but can't find anything about it

Hi Panda Idea again.
Perform a search on the forum " ecu re-teach" and check out the thread on the Stilo, this may help.

Just had a look at the post mate,if it wasn't dark I would be out there right now, that's got to be the problem,it sounds such a simple solution to such a big problem. I was going to go shopping for a new car tomorrow but I'll be cleaning the idle control valve first,I'll let you know how I get on.
thank's for the lead st004rt,you've gave me a bit of hope,cheers mate(y)

done the idle control valve job this morning, what a difference,it's still not 100% but it's made a big difference to the low running of it.

Ive got another wee question,on the plastic intake manifold on the right side there is a small plastic take off tube that connects to a small diameter hose that joins the larger hose that exits the rocker cover and joins onto the air feed pipe going to the idle control valve, can anyone tell me what this small hose does as the one on my car has been plugged with a bolt as some clown has broken the take off plastic tube and plugged that with a screw. I'm just wondering if this could be causing the car still not to run right.

One last thing, I still went shopping for a new car today, had a look at the new 1.6 and 1.5dci Nissan Note with full spec, very good price on it the now,so I'm a wee bit tempted:D

Glad you hadn't wasted your time having a tinker, shame it didn't sort it. The bolt in the tube sounds painful and probably doesn't help. Can't help you there I'm afraid, I've only had the Idea for a week and only been under the bonnet a couple of times. Not sure on the Nissan Note, is the 1.5Dci the Renault engine? if so it sounds a cheap runner. Hope all goes well with whatever your outcome(y)

It was well worth the tinker,I can drive the car now:D,it's just when starting it that it's still a wee bit lumpy.
I'm not sure about the note engine if it's a Renault,i'm more thinking about picking the 1.6 petrol. The more I think about it the more I think I'll just go and buy it tomorrow,I like the idea,it's a real nice car to drive but I do alot of miles in a year( I drive heavy earth moving plant for a hire company and I have to drive all over the place),so I need a car I can depend on and after the trouble I've had with the idea I don't trust it now and with it being lazy to start just now it's going to be alot worse come the frosty mornings,so I really need something that I knows going to start every time

Well I don't have to worry about if my Fiat idea is going to start or not when the winter comes, just ordered a new nissan note 1.6 N-Tec today.
I really liked the idea,it is a lovely car to drive but I've just had too many problems with it and I've only owned it about four weeks and one of those weeks it sat in the drive waiting for spares.
I've still got my panda which has been a fantastic wee car, 70000 miles and it's only cost me a new rad fan and a brake cable and £27 for an oil and filter change every 12000 miles(y).
I'll need to edit my user name now :D.
and thanks to everyone that's gave me advice over the last few weeks but as the saying goes "a man can only take so much":D
