General Splitter

Hey,

Does anyone know where I can get a splitter that will fit a cinq?
Also what splitters will fit the cinq?

You're unlikely in the extreme to get anything ready made.

Why not make one?

Important to remember that the loads on one that's not purely cosmetic are fairly high. Needs to be very well attached.

Start with polystyrene and fibreglass over It should be plenty strong enough

NOT polystyrene -- the resin will melt it immediately. Polyurethane foam. The process is similar to making a surf board.

For all that, the splitter can be as strong as you like -- if it ain't attached properly, it'll come off.

I've seen people take the splitter off of a Laguna, chop the middle out and whack that on. As fingers says though, proper fixing is key.

Seriously, if it's working properly, it'll create a fair bit of downforce, and anyone who watches F1 knows what happens if a front wing -- which is what a splitter is, in effect -- comes off. If you can't stand on it, it's not strong enough.

Me and steve used a mk3 golf GTI splitter on his cinq, and just cut a small section out of the middle, then held it on with self tapping screws.

Well, OK. But it probably isn't doing a lot of work if selftappers hold it on!

Seat ibiza splitters fit also, dont know about the current model but the one previous definately did

In theory anything should fit if you are willing to cut it up and make it fit

quite interested in this, so how would i go about making one from scratch? (i dont mean like a f1 racing one, i mean like a standard car ones: clio, megane etc..) how does polyurethane work??

You buy a sheet of foam, (most glassfibre suppliers have it), cut and sand it to shape, then lay glassfibre resin on top of it, usually with surfacing tissue as the very top layer. A light skim of bodyfiller, et viola. A DA sander is pretty much essential, and lots of work with wet or dry.

The difficult bit is attaching it properly. I'd recommend that the front and rear be attached to the frame of the car, with some kind of adjustment built in.
