hi all ive just put a bit of sounds into the girlfriends punto,was hoping for a better sound quality but its not that good.ive put in a sony mp401 mp3 h unit with 12jblsub and 600wamp with sony xplod 160w 6*9s in the shelf.does it matter what way i face the sub(facing back or front)? and will i need a power cap for this kind of setup?and finally any suggestions on what to change the front standard speakers to or will i be better off mounting some bigger ones into the door instead. cheers for any advice

well i would buy some speaker pods for the front- any nice alpines etc will be good, and get rid of 6x9's if you have a sub.

why get rid of the 6*9s ?do they pull the quality of the sub down or sommit???im not too clued up on speakers n stuff...

well you use the sub for the bass, the front for the treble and mid range, and the rear, for emmm???? lol, you just dont need them with a sub, messes with sound stage (as said by another FF member lol)

Which would be me

6x9s drag the soundstage to the back of car - when you go to listen to a band, do you turn your back on them to listen to them? You have the sound coming towards you from the front.

If you have say your 6x9s in the parcel shelf and your sub in the boot they are both using the same air space. This could give very poor SQ, and it could cause damage to the speakers due to the resonances of the 6x9s and the sub working against each other.

A power cap is not necessary.

The ideal set up (IMO)

front components (2 way, good quality 3 ways are expensive)
sub in a correctly designed and sized enclosure
suitable amp/s for the components and the sub

Make sure the wiring is thick enough to take the power. Thicker cable=less resistance=easier power transfer The speaker wiring should be at least 16 gauge for the speakers (good for 100W RMS, some reckon its OK for 300W), the sub wiring should be 10/12 gauge IMO. Better to have wiring slightly OTT in terms of thickness than have it too thin.
