900 Sleeping Giant

'83 Fiat 900e Sleeping Giant
To be fair it looked pretty reasonable in the pics.
The floor and screen surround looked good, even the gutter looks decent

The engine bay is bad, the front doors are rotten and a lot of the internal unit's the chipboard is blown. It'll be a bit of work but hopefully worth it

I think the doors come from the factory like that, I've never seen one of these vans that doesn't have rotton or repaired doors.

If you have the outer panels you're halfway there.

It'll be worth it

Your biggest advantage is having those repair panels. I had to fabricate the lower corners for mine - a 3D nightmare! I modified Jag xj6 sills to fit ( quite easy, just needed shortening really) and as Peter said, the door arch repairs aren't too hard. Check your crossmembers and lower wishbones, again, not difficult to do, but easy to miss... I was horrified at state of my wishbones! Oh, and whilst it's stripped empty, rectify any heater pipe issues, I wish I could but its an interior out job to sort!

Thank you for the advice. I'll need all the help I can get. Does anyone know where to get the struts for the roof as these won't hold the roof up
I did some research and went to SGS, which is a very helpful and internet-friendly supplier. I bought three struts with the following details:
GSC2425 Volkswagen Transporter Roof Gas Strut. There were two versions available...450N and 250(Newton).
I'm not sure which ones I got, but I think the stronger ones. They were about £25 each back in 2018.
When your roof erects properly it is as joyful as I am sure you can imagine. ;)

I've replaced the roof struts, that was fun. Took some pictures for comparison

Hi
I noticed in one of your photo's there was an inline fuel conditioner from Fuel Conditioning Systems UK Ltd. According to Companies House this company was dissolved Dec 2011.

When I bought our van 20+ years ago the previous owner had dropped a 'widget' into the fuel tank that was supposed to help with the switch to unleaded fuel. When I removed the tank to allow access for the welding the 'widget' had rusted away and I haven't replaced it with anything else - although I have upgraded to electronic ignition.

There have been other discussions about running on unleaded fuel before but since the switch to E10 has anyone noticed anything different and/or any precautions taken... for example I try to fill up with the higher octane if possible. However, as my van doesn't get much use I'm aware that the octane degrades over time so it's probably running much lower grade fuel on the rare occasions it gets moved (to stop brakes etc. seizing).

By the way, the last time I took my van out and topped up the tank it stirred up the rust in it and clogged up the two fuel filters and the rust got past them and has blocked the carb jets. I flushed out the carb but the fuel mix is way off and I need to strip it down again as something is still clogging the fuel flow - it will only run on full choke.
