Hi guys, Halfords doing Simoniz 10 Piece Valet Kit £18.00 'Web Price' or £29.99 Instore. Has anybody used Simoniz? Do you think it would be a good value for money kit for a beginner?

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...er-_-Product_List_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PLPz1

Kit Includes:

500ml Wash & Wax removes dirt & traffic film for a streak free finish
Jumbo Sponge is non-scratch foam, ideal for repeated use
500ml Wheel Cleaner is suitable for all types of wheels
Wheel Brush, perfect for those hard to access areas
500ml Tyre Shine for a deep gloss black shine
500ml Max Wax Polish has a super gloss finish
2 x 100g Polishing cloths for a superior finish
20 Matt Dashboard Wipes remove dirt & dust quickly
500ml Glass Cleaner is suitable for all internal & external automotive glass
Carry Case included for easy storage

Obviously wouldn't be using the dreaded sponge, I've already ordered my Lambswool Mitt.

Halfords currently have 3for2 on car cleaning stuff so its either this kit or I was gonna buy some wash & wax shampoo, some wheel cleaner and the Autoglym Super Resin Polish. But then I would need to buy the appropriate cloths and probably a few other bits, so this valet kit seems like a good idea for me as a beginner. What do you think?

It may seem like good value but you'd be better off - even as a beginner - spending a litte more on good quality stuff. Simoniz is very low budget stuff. If you're investing in a lambswool mitt anyway you may as well get proper kit. I got myself an Autoglym valet case (can't remember where from now) for about £35-40 which had shampoo, SRP, glass polish, wheel cleaner, bug and tar remover, paint renovator (a harsher compound polish) and bumper care, which is great for those black plastic bits :) I think it also had a couple of polishing cloths in there too. Get onto ebay and grab a stack of kent microfibre cloths and pretty much all you're missing is clay and wax :)

Edit: Oh, and it comes in a nice storage case/bag which has extra space for other things :D

I wouldn't say it's suitable for a beginner, more absolute novice/rookie kind of thing.

I have had a few Simoniz products before, I have a few microfibre cloths of theirs, Complete tat.

Im going from experience on certain products, I don't rate them one bit.

You don't really want a 'wash and wax' 2 in 1 one shampoo either.

As you are a beginner, I take it you know how to do the two bucket method considering you have a lambswool mitt? If you do, that is a good start.
Super resin polish is okay. Obviously much better if worked on by a dual action or rotary polisher, But I have seen some good results from two layers put on by hand before.

Just go for it, get some pictures up so we can see the progress and im sure that we can help if you become stuck. (y)

EDIT - as above, can't go wrong with a Autoglym kit!

why wouldnt you want a 'wash and wax' 2 in 1?
I have autoglym car shampoo, but i also have turtle wax wash and wax in 1 I use sometimes to.

I have autoglym car shampoo, but i also have turtle wax wash and wax in 1 I use sometimes to.

My main reason behind it is I normally use a PH neutral car maintenance shampoo such as Dodo Juice, Born to be Mild. Keeps the top layer on the car much longer than most car shampoos.

Back in the day before I went OCD with a bucket and sponge, I used to use Turtle Wax Wash and Wax, massive 5L tub. Only thing I find that is good for is cleaning the caravan with

Used to leave soap sud marks on my paintwork as I never used an open hose and just used a one bucket method. I live in an area with hard water, so it is quite hard to achieve a wash without having water marks, just different shampoos are better for some things than others. :D

Down to preference I guess... What you look for from a shampoo.
Mine suits me down to a tee. Plus it smells lovely.

Ok so I've been looking at Autoglym kits, what do we think to this one on ebay?

Does it look like good value? Would I just use microfibre cloths with the super resin polish and glass cleaner?

Pop into a newsagent and flick through a copy of Autocar. They quite often give this Autoglym kit away in exchange for a subscription to the magazine, and even then, heavily reduced. If you have a boyfriend/brother/dad/whatever who might be interested in having the mag cheap, you'd both be winners.

Sod's law is the offer won't be on now though.
