Hello dear colleagues!
I am very new to this Cinq/Sei world (and newbie into mechanics as well). I'll be owning a Seicento Sporting very soon, so I am reading a lot of threads about this car, and a question popped up.

In the air intake, there's a piece which I don't know what's its name and what it does. It goes before the air filter, see the picture (from internet):

Can anyone put some light on my doubts? What's this and what is it for? Can our cars go without it? I am asking because I've seen some mods on the air intake system and it looks like people get rid of it.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Looks like the part number 5:

FIAT part number 7786487. Looks like it's the same for all engine versions.

The same diagram is for the Cinquecento, but there are 3 different part numbers:

The C2327 and D2327 modifications informations state: noise reduction to 74 dB.
The D2978 modification information states: new resonator and air intake union since 15/11/1997. And this one was continued in the Seicento. Same for the element number 6.

A perhaps stupid question. If you want to make it a racing car, why don't you buy something bigger / more powerfull / safer ex factory?

Hello @the green vanper !

Thanks for your answer. Where did you get this diagram from? It would be very interesting to have it at hand... So if I understand it correctly, those pieces (5-6) are only to reduce the noise?

Answering your question: I do not want to make it a racing car. I am just curious on what mods people is doing. Although a bit more power for a Seicento would not be bad... But I decided to go for a Cinq/Sei because of the available space in my garage.

On the bottom of the forum banner there's a link to the forum ePER. It's a FIAT spare parts catalogue.

Search window is top left of the screen. You can browse by models and categories, or search with the VIN or part number (or name, but this one is tricky).

So if I understand it correctly, those pieces (5-6) are only to reduce the noise?

I understand it differently. It's the air intake into the engine. It was modified during the production of the Cinquecento first to reduce noise, then again for an unknown reason. This modified on 15/11/1997 air intake was then used in the Seicento for the whole production time.

Vehicles are ment to respect different norms, including noise standards, failure to comply with them is a serious threat to human hearing.

In my mpi seicento I believe it doesn't have that. From memory it's just a straight Flexi pipe all the way from the bumper to the air filter box. Its possible someone in the last 3 owners changed it, but its not loud. I'll try remember to check next time I'm at my car

Is your intake manifold also plastic?
