General Sei Sporting MPG :) You've just got to smile!

Never checked my true MPG before on my '02 Sei Sporting. I usually give it some well and got about 280-290 miles to a tank.

On friday I filled it to the brim, reset the trip, did a bit round town, travelled from nuneaton (near coventry) to barmouth (north wales), and back again, and a bit more town driving before it was time to refil again. the driving was a mix of town, motorway (70mph), and hilly country roads.

After refilling I got the following stats:

Miles : 340.1
Litres: 30.33
=
11.21 m/l or 50.92 mpg


Pretty good I think Just chuffed and curoius what others get?

Also curious wether I would see an improvment in mpg with OptiMax etc? or wetehr they are just a performance enhancment? Don't wanna pay the extra if i don't get more miles lol.

i got 320 on a full tank on a trip from mid cheshire to santa pod (got a little lost). that was shell which i find best. had to fill up on way back as i was unsure if i had 50miles left with what was in the tank

I like these lil fire engines. To say that I like to give my 75 engined Sei' some is an understatement, give me an empty road in front coming off a roundabout and I'll pin the throttle in 2nd, joining the motorway at 90mph? not a problem (pure WTF moment for the early morning rep in the beemer) & still she returns mid-40s (I cruise at 110km/h once on though). My Punto 60 returned 48~53mpg (my speedo is off so in reality I think that's 45-50) depending on how aggressive I was with her.

Yeah but really these Sporting Cinqs and Seis should be capable of giving better mpg than mid 40s (I sometimes even get low 40s and can only manage 48 if I drive like a nun-AND I NEVER drive in towns/cities-well hardly ever -especially if calculating mpg )
Cant the Punto Mk1 with the same engine do 50mpg much easier and ok its more aero but our cars are so much lighter and smaller...
Ive always been unimpressed with the Cinq/Sei Sporting mpg.My 899cc gave high 40s and is meant to be worse....The Citroen AX GT is capable of knocking on the door of an 8sec 0-60 (well certainly the modded one I once owned was) and could get low-mid 40s mpg ,heck I once had an Opel Kadett 2 litre( VauxhallAstra GTE 16v)that would creep into the low 40s
A Lotus Elise driven gently would probably get as much mpg as a Cinq/Sei Sporting!!!

Well for starters the Punto 55 has higher gearing than the cento sportings, it also has narrower tyres as stock fitment.... as for mid-40mpg that's what I get from a 1242cc Sei' Sporting that frequently doesn't see the low side of 3500rpm between the M11 & work/home! As I filled the tank up just before getting home I'll do a ~100 mile fill and see the mpg while I drive like the pope!

....maybe I should change my thermostat for more mpg as some suggested....I never get any interior heating in the Winter but when the car is stopped in traffic etc the heater is very hot so obviously not the rad etc...

I've not called on the Sei's heating, havin' had the car about a month, but my punto even in a few ºC below freezing gets warm inside about 10 min of starting the car, if I give it some down the slip road from home (about 5 miles into the journey to work) gives me toasty heat in double time.

Crikey I'm gonna have to get me a bigger engine, my 899cc sei gets about 240 miles to the tank(about £28) ,I had meant to sort handling out before I changed the engine but I may have to reconsider.Although as an alternative I could stop thrashing the t*ts out of it .

went on a course down to bracknell a few months ago, got home in just under 3 and a half hours, nearly flat out all the way and managed 51 mpg in my sei mpi not bad eh!!

Okay just filled up the Sei'... 117.9 miles (corrected for smaller dia tyres), 9.72 Litres... so that's 55.1mpg! That's driving like the pope and going down the m-way at lorry speed.
