Hi all I've got a Sedici Eleganza 1.9 Diesel 2006 with a spongy break pedal. I've had it looked at by 4 different mechanics and they keep saying its supposed to travel to the floor like that. I've had it for five years and it didn't do it till about April this year. When you need to brake you have to pump the brake pedal to get any pressure in the system.
Apparently the discs and pads are good and the rear brake shoes have plenty of meat left on them. The brake fluid is not leaking from master or wheel cylinders and the brake pipes show no breaks in them.
The system has been bled twice but the problem's still there.
Any ideas guys what it might be? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hello,

Brake fluid is highly higroscopic. It should be replaced every 2 years for security reasons.

When have you changed it?
Hi GV the fluid was changed a few months ago then 2 days ago at the last visit to a garage. But you only have the mechanic's word that they actually did it. Just wondering if one of the wheel cylinders is letting air in the seal but no fluid is escaping.

Good they changed the fluid.

The pump makes pressure, so I'd say the fluid would definitely leak through a hole or damaged seal.

I know that a part of the forum members will say the bleeding could be done without any additionnal actions, but the braking systems include an ABS pump. Which makes bleeding a little bit complicated. Normally it should be desactivated via MES to let the fluid flow through without any restrictions.

I cannot find this option in MES in the Sedici section. Let an experienced owner of the Sedici confirm how it should be done.

Just an idea, perhaps totally wrong, but what I found on MES though and I think could be another path to explore, in the ABS section there's a steering angle calibration option. Is the power steering electric or hydraulic?

If it's hydraulic, does it use same fluid as the brakes? If so, perhaps there's some air lock in this part of the system?

It sounds like you have an ABS pump fault in one of the valves in the ABS unit not the module just the silver body of the ABS unit I would suggest you send it to ECU testing they do a great job I've had one rebuilt myself also comes with a lifetime guarantee

Hi, i’ve got a 2007 Sedici and often find googling and trawling Suzuki SX4 forums rather than Fiat gets better results as obviously the Sedici is an SX4 with a Fiat badge on, the chassis plate under the bonnet even says Suzuki on it! Definitely not normal as the brakes on my 2007 1.9 diesel are very good

Still got this problem with my brake pedal. I checked the obd info with a meter for error codes but there were no codes stored for it.
I now have a new light that displays on the dash for the last 2 days never seen it before but it disappears when the engine starts up (have uploaded it). I'm reluctant to try and remove the ABS to send it off to ECU to be bench tested as it might not be faulty. Plus I'm not experienced enough to remove and refit it.
Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

There are several owners' handbooks in the download section of the forum available. And a workshop manual, too :)
