Hi everyone, I have a Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.6 52 reg and after a month of having it, it started to cut out... The Diagnostic tools where sometimes unable to connect to the ECU and errors where ASR loose connection etc. So in both garages they have told me its 100% ECU problem... The car was cutting out randomly and i had to wait 30-40min to start the car again... a week back i drove home and next day car didnt start... it turns but doesnt start. I realized that probably the ECU now is proper dead... i took it off and from behind of it seems that someone has already opened it before me... Now the car just stands in the parking lot and does nothing. The question is can i fit a second hand ECU if i buy an ECU, KEY and KEY barrel? coz there are alot of ebay listings which say "FULL ECU SET UP" which include ECU, key and a key barrel. Will that be ok?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I think you and the mechanics may be jumping the gun a little. Stilo engine ECU's rarely fail and the problems you describe make me think the fault lies else where, failing battery, corroded earths, faulty crank or cam sensor.

Have any of these things been checked?

Well both mechanics has said its an ECU, one of them checked all the wires and fixed one bad earth at the rear light. The diagnostic tool sometiems can not connect because ECU lockes it out... plus i've put two additional earth wires from battery to an ECU, and one to the car shell. No difference. ECU also was opened before... so I am guessing it is an ECU... D4 was checked by me all good.. fusebox all good.. I trust one mechanic for sure... plus truthfully it is one of the major problems on 1.6 ECU by checking many forums...

To answer your question, you'll either need a virgin ECU which should be plug-and-play or, second hand ECU, body computer, ignition barrel and keys.

Do i definatelly need a body computer because on ebay listings it got nothing about it... when it comes to "FULL ECU SETUP"

So i need a body computer as well from the doner car where i take the ecu, ignition barrel and the key? and then all of that will work? I would have bought a virginised ECU although, second hand with key and ignition barrel will cost me near enough nothing...

of course it's i good idea to check the other possible causes first but in most cases it really is an ecu problem (well-known problem of the 1.6 Stilo) - when you can source a second-hand one i can virginise it but you would have to send it to the Netherlands....
No need for replacing body computer, ignition barrel and locks.
i also can deliver a virginised ecu , just PM me for further info....

Lol :) Ok after a year from the topic, I can actually say that I have put a new Virginised ECU and car for a year didnt have any problems at all :) So yeah... seems like a common problem. What you can also do, is get a second hand ECU and just turn the immobilizer off and it should be working ok
