OK, So I am a newbie to the boards but I did read thru every thread here on the x board before asking this

I just picked up an 82 x1/9 and the seats (like most) are not in great shape. 15 years ago I got really nice,OEM-like, vinyl covers for my 78 but I can't seem to find anyone who carries them anymore.

So the questions are: what to do with my seats? Can any one point me to a seat cover that looks close to original? What aftermarket seats other than the mx-5 fit? Will I find anything on JC Whitney that I can come clost to bolting in?

Lots of questions, any answers?

Thanks!

My mate bought an X with his seats already re covered in Black velour. Looks sexy. Have you tried getting a quote from an auto upholsterer?

I haven't checked with an upholsterer yet but will in the upcoming months if I can't find seat covers.

I have to believe that getting them recovered with a stock kit will be alot cheaper than going custom, although going custom gets me the end result of a perfectly designed seat.

I was hoping to go "junkyarding" and find the replacement or get a new recaro-knockoff that would fit. I guess it's time to start measuring and see what'll fit

Keep in mind that the X is pretty narrow for seats. Very few after market ones or ones for other cars will fit. Maybe have a look for Mazda MX5 (or Miata) seats as they're pretty narrow and comfy. Happy hunting!

Thanks Dave.

I had heard of mx-5/miata seats fitting well. I was going to shoot for new seats. I have seen a few aftermarket racing-look seats that are 20"w but I haven't measured my x yet to see if they'll fit.

Worse case scenario, I could always hit the recycling yard and see what old Miata's I find with decent seats, eh?

i have found a pair of old toyota supra seats but it is a bit of a tight fit and i had to modify the seat runners .They do sit a bit higher than the other originals but they are not to bad and they only cost £20 for the pair from the local breakers
