Just bought a 03 Ulysse all working fine, until 3 days after when driving along and everything went dead long story cut short, took back to dealer replaced a faulty battery and fuses which seem to be ok. But now a week later we are having problems with th RT3. 2 cds were stuck in there, the sat nav and a music 1. Got my mechanic to disconect the unit take the discs out, when we put it back in, radio plays multi disc unit plays but there's no sat nav or any other display apart from the fiat logo. In the bottom right corner reads loading, starting, reading. By reading some of the forums i am at a lost with what to do. Do i have to press the DARK button or take the battery off for 30 secs or do i have to go and see a fiat/citreon/peugeot dealer???????

I'd certainly try the "dark" button - press and hold until the display changes and there's a beep. Was the display normal after the dealer changed the battery?

(I hope the battery was dis connected and re-connected in the correct way - the CAN/VAN must start the BSi without doors open or anything active on the electrics or it can get scrambled... It may now be necessary to "match" the RT3 with a diagnostic tool.)

yes the display was ok had all the menu's up except the sat nav. this kept saying load disc. i ask'd my mechanic if it was ok to disconnect the unit and he said yeah, now i think he was wrong. went out in it last night and it's just a blank screen and try's to reload itself. I'm lost with what to do, as it's the partners car she is really pee'd off and is in two minds weather to take it back to the dealer and get a refund.

What happens if you take the navigation disk out?

If as I suspect the car and the RT3 aren't on good terms I'd see if the unit is "matched" or initialised via Lexia. You might well be near a Garage Forum member who would attempt to sort you out at a price - about a tenth of dealers charges(!)

Whereabouts are you? I can look on the map of Lexia/PP2000 members...

Lastly, what happens when you put a music cd in? The same "loading" fault?

haven't tried that yet only because it won't eject it, but that's not a prob. I live near Bath Uk. Only got the car because it's was a MPV we liked and cos our Nissian Terrando was starting to age on us.

Is the cd stuck in the "head" unit or a cd changer? Main thing with the Fiat/Citroen/Peugeot/Lancia is the cam belt. If it's over 60,000 miles get it changed, NOW. The RT3 stuff will be cheap. I'll look for a LEXIA member near you. Most charge about £15 - £16 for a look. AFAIK!

Chris

cd is stuck in the head unit not the changer. just trys to load, radio plays blue fiat logo shows on screen for about a minute the it turns itself off and does the same thing over and over.... very frustrating as you can imagine

There's no "eject" pin hole unlike a computer. Try holding the eject button at left down as you start the car (or better turn on the ignition, sorry) - it SHOULD eject. Try also the "source" button -do you have a cd/changer?

Try'd that still the same.cd and changer.think it's a trip to a fiat dealer :(

Ouch! If you have some wire "DIN" removal tools you could always pull the unit out - and take the top cover off. The cd should be visible then - however to get that cover off means unplugging the RT3 as some of the screws are on the back. When you put it back the clock will be wrong, but the backup battery should have retained phone numbers/radio stations, etc. (If the battery is good, that is) In any case, that's what the dealer will do unless they have a magig pair of tweezers!

Does the thing show any sign or sound of *trying* to eject?

it does try to eject but it's as if the insides don't want to throw it up lol if you get what i mean. Popped round to see my car electrical friend and he just went dumb and told me to try Maple Audio in Bath. check their site out and the RT3 is fitted in the 807 aswell but say's called them for price to fix. I will try ringing them tomorrow as i'm in bath on friday. but i will have a go at taking the face off to get at the disc.

We had a problem with the cd changer which it turned out was because - do laugh - there was a piece of foil from the top of a wine bottle stuck in there... Looked at my RT3 again tonight ('cos it keeps re- booting) and with car in 5th gear it's possible to get the unit out enough - without disconnecting it - to get at the screws holing the lid on Could take a pic if you need it.

But, it's possible to see the centre of the laser unit even without removing the cover. If you DO take the thing out and give it to a radio specialist, remember that it's much more than a CD/Radio. AND that disconnecting power from the car and re-connecting has a set procedure, otherwise the BSi (body ECU) might get scrambled - which is what may have happened in your case.
