rough idling and lack of power

hello

i wonder if anyone can help?i have a 2000 1242 16 v brava.my problem started a while ago,rough idling on start up and so on going changed plugs leads,checked. coil out seems ok,have not changed air filter,when accelerating holding back,i am all out of ideas,help me thanks in advance

it could be one of a few things, or several things...

Could be the idle air control valve malfunctioning causing the rough idling. Also could be the air flow sensor that is dirty, search the guides section on here for how to clean it (not that big of a job really.

if you have changed the plugs its not going to be a problem with your spark, so maybe look to it being something to do with one of your injectors being slightly clogged.

My advice would be:

1. Get the guide and clean the MAF sensor, maybe change the air filter if you want to do it at the same time.
2. Buy some Redex or fuel system cleaner and put it in the tank with some high quality fuel (Shell VPower or BPultimate.
3. Take it out for a good run, give it some acceleration and maybe get onto a national speed limit road so you can get a bit more speed and revs up.


I hope this would cure the problem, any other ideas guys?
