Is the car turned off?? If so then yes there probably is an issue, but if the engine is on(i.e idling) the RPM should be about 750 - so just below 1 :)

I am assuming you mean when the engine is running?

If so then it's perfectly normal. When your car is running (even at idle) it is still moving. The rev' counter shows the speed the engine is running at. When idling it is normal to be running at about 700-900rpm (the Bravo seems to be about 800rpm)

When cold you'll notice when you first start it up the revs will increase to about 1100rpm before dropping down to to 800rpm after 30secs to a min. Again this is normal

Thank you to Brav-oh and trekster for your replies. It has made sense now. I would like to thank you for your comments re: the above. You are absolutely right. I dont have a vast knowledge of cars, nor do i profess to. I thought this forum was for asking questions and helping others which is why i joined.

Just because i dont know as much as you Peerzy, does not mean i should be laughed at for not knowing something.

It simply does not help anyone by you posting the word "classic" as a reply. If at all anything, it shows you have way too much time on your hands.

Good night folks!

It's a genuine question. The guy obviously doesn't have much experience of cars so that's what the forum is here for. To help and teach fellow members who need help and to answer any questions they may have.

We all didn't know everything we do now at some point in the past.

One would imagine if the car is 'on' then the engine must be running, it's simple common sense. Would this not have some up when say the OP was learning to drive a car, or test driving the car?

To say they have brought a car thats pretty new and have never before in their life noticed that when you turn the key the car is on, even if you don't rev the nuts off it is mental.

Turn your TV on and go to a channel that shows all black, doesn't mean it's not using electricity.

"When I turn the key the car makes a noise, should it do this?"

How do you pass a pratical driving test without ever noticing any car engine will be running when the key is turned?

He didn't know so done the correct thing. Asked on a forum where people with knowledge could help.

Berating the guy due to his (in your opinion) lack of common sense isn't the way to deal with his genuine question. A simple answer would have informed him of what he didn't know.

What would people do without the internet eh?

HAHA what a farce this has turned out to be. I obviously asked a simple question and only wanted a simple answer yet you seem to have taken it personally that i didnt know the answer.

Peerzy - i must be forgetting that you of course know everything about anything and have never requested advice or help from anyone in the past.

The internet is a great tool and thanks to members like Brav-oh i have found an answer which would have preventing me having to go to a garage.

I will have you know it does not require you to know the ins and outs of a rev counter to pass a practical driving test.

Anyway off i go to my bed to read up on my specialist subject for next years mastermind which reads "the knowledge of everything as scripted by Peerzy"

Right you lot.. I don't care who started it I'm finishing it :p

AP07... No question is too small or silly. I've asked some pretty silly questions during my time and yes I've been ribbed for it but nobody means any real malace, and it's all in good humour. Everyone here is friendly... even Tad-Bravo... :D

Best thing is to say thanks, take a proverbial bow, and know that not only have you got your question answered, but you've managed to bring a little laugh to someone at the same time.

Ap07.... I saulte you sir/madame (y)

I love a bit of friendly banter.:D

Absolutely spot on, some questions may appear foolish to some. some to all, but none will appear foolish to no one, or something like that.

The forum is here to collectively answer questions and resolve issues. If neither of these can be addressed then there is no point and we'd all be attending fiat dealers on a daily basis(y)
