I've got a 1.7 n/a diesel, had an unusual noise while driving, pulled over, and when I popped the bonnet there was a nice amount of water being flung at me!

I turned the engine off to avoid any more damage, all pulleys and belts appear to be tight, so I'm guessing the seals failed on the water pump.

How hard is it to replace the pump? Its on the alternator belt and not the cam belt, so I take it I don't have to play with timing or anything?

Cheers all, Ed.M

Turns out it was bearing failure in the water pump.

Bit of a pain to replace as the unit included the engine mount! Although the hardest bit was trying to get the old unit off of the solid water pipe...
