Hi,

I have one of the incresingly few petrol engined 1.6 models (2001).

I've started having problems over selecting 2nd gear and all gears were very stiff in the cold weather. It does not look like the cables have popped off the linkage on the gearbox housing but the rubbers on the cables perished a long time ago, so the cables may be a bit corroded. They may also be a little stretched I guess as they are so old now?

i'm thinking of renewing both cables but how difficult a DIY job is this?

Has anyone got any experience of replacing the cables?

Thanks!

This is what killed our Multipa. We got quoted £700 to replace and it's a dealer only part according to them.

£700 good grief .
I changed them on a diesel multi , owner got the cables new via eBay they were about £140.
Hardest part of job is working through the hole exposed by removing gear stick fabric gaiter to remove metal clips that retain outer cables. Second hardest bit is getting the grommet the cables go through back in the bulk head.
Think it took 1 and 1/2 hours working on owners drive , front off car on drive on ramps.

Yeah, I was thinking it could be done cheaper but at the time, replacing her with an MPW made more sense. Need to get the old Multiplayer sold... it's been sitting on the drive since january
