Hi, I barely brushed against my petrol fuel door on my Panda 2008 and it snapped off. It's obvious that it was replaced by the previous owner, so it may have been a cheap second-hand part. Two questions:

- Is the fuel door really needed, it doesn't lock, and I have a locking fuel cap?

- Do you know where I can get a replacement? Something that is somewhat a red color.

See photo:

Thanks!

Is it needed, no, but it does look attractive to yobs to mess with the cap

In the right colour, ebay, I guess, I suspect dealer prices will be expensive

There will probably be several shades of red, if you want it exactly the right colour code is on a barcode on the edge of each panel

You got black door handles I guess black wouldn't look too bad either ?

Has the plastic flap actually broken?

I've removed mine a couple of times for cleaning and it's only held on with thin wire springs. Might just pop off if knocked.

If you do need a new one, I'd agree with Koalar, I'd try and get a used black one rather than trying to match the red. Even if it's the same colour code it might look different

My MoT inspector is very fussy but has not complained about Mrs Dave's missing filler flap. She did the same thing and the hinge retaining screws are rusted solid. I did not fancy drilling them out just to create an even bigger problem.

That's good to know. I don't see any other Pandas with this hatch missing, in my region, so it concerns me a bit about the APK/MOT.

No, but you might need to unbolt the hinge to get an MOT if the tester is being pedantic - the sharp edge could injure a pedestrian
Here in the UK

Correct, MOT is only a visual check for sharp edges, its subjective so probably will not fail

But technically it's illegal as anything a 100mm sphere can touch, which it does, has to have a have minimum of 2.5mm radius on it, which it doesn't, again unlikely to ever get picked up by the police.but technically a fixed penalty notice can be given
